  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anone know of a well-done, Gospel-focussed, chapter-by-chapter refutation of the Purpose Driven Life?

Also, I am looking for a well done short refutation of the same, with examples of the errors. This one, I could probably do on my own, but what can I say... I'm lazy. ;)

Dan, you might check the Issues Etc. archives for a roundtable discussion done in Oct. 2003. I don't know if they went Chptr by chptr, but if you know Lutheran theology well enough you should be able to pick out the stuff that doesn't fit fairly easily.

Purpose, pfeh! If God had a purpose for us (which I doubt, because when a group of people can't even successfully refrain from a piece of fruit, you don't pile on more things), the last thing he'd want us to do is know what it was. We'd just resist and resist and not do it. Far better to keep us rebels in the dark.

But Tetzel, He does have a purpose for us. Read Matthew 28:19. If that isn't a good enough purpose I will eat a hat (I don't have a hat, but I will buy one and eat it if necessary. ;) ).
