The Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union was a proclamation issued on December 24, 1860, by the government of South Carolina to explain its reasons for seceding from the United States (Full text of the declaration)..... The declaration stated the primary reasoning behind South Carolina's declaring of secession from the U.S., which was described as "increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the Institution of Slavery".[1]

From Wikipedia (though it's easy enough to read the document yourself. Go ahead and open that link up and hit "ctrl-f" to search for all instances of "slavery" throughout).

It is truly amazing that our country tolerates the reimagining of the secession of the Civil War era South as some sort of noble stand against the aggression of the North.

1. They were traitors.
2. Defending slavery. They told us so. Right in their primary documents about why they seceded.

Yet 50 years after that war, organizations such as the Daughters of the Confederacy, started plastering these monuments all over the place, and promoting this twisted narrative that paints the south in a hagiographic light.

I'm ready to wipe these monuments off the face of the Earth. Shouldn't you?
