I don't believe anyone has said that here. What has been said is if that bookstand or side table serves another purpose (as per the OP), then it isn't an altar.I'll run the risk of being banned.
This little correspondence shows the shallowness of certain orthodox spiritual practices.
In the OT God gave very presice instructions how to make an alter.
Yet here the orthodox think an alter can be knocked up with a few unknown items, a picture of a japanese cartoon angel and that is acceptable.
