I’m not seeing proposals to change the constitution to outlaw it. Condemning hatred against LGBT is free speech. Rep Gomez has every right to say what he did.

He can say whatever he wants but it's very clear that he would use his power as a legislator to bar so-called hate speech. He clearly does not believe such speech is protected by the Constitution. However, Supreme Court precedent dating back to at least the 1950's says otherwise.

Is it? I suppose it's clear that conservatives attack on gay marriage means that they want to outlaw it. So perhaps it's natural to conclude that liberals condemnation of anti-gay speech means they want to outlaw it. But I don't think there's much support for that.

Here's the full quote from Gomez:

"Homophobic rhetoric isn’t a matter of free speech. It’s a matter of hate speech.

These are stunning, harmful words from Justice Alito.

    That’s why my
    @LGBTEqCaucus
colleagues and I introduced a resolution reaffirming marriage equality and #SCOTUS’ Obergefell v. Hodges decision."

Note, not "that's why we introduced a bill to ban hate speech."

Go to a government university some time and take a look at the words and viewpoints that are essentially banned on campus. Argue for traditional marriage and expect to banished by a university kangaroo court.

Criticism of gays can be done in a hateful way.

But Jesus died for all of us. So, we must not discriminate about who needs to be forgiven and has hope of being changed by God.

All of us have been born in sin; so I understand that every one of us was born wrong.

When I was just a kid, I cared more about getting candy and ice cream, than I cared about people. And it was easy to fool me into believing in Santa Claus, and then I cared mainly about things I could get from Santa for my own self. I was about myself.

But one of the basics of Jesus is >

"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me." (in Luke 9:23)

I would say a basic of how any of us has been born in sin . . . therefore born wrong . . . is how any of us has been able to be mainly about our own selves. And therefore we can only love certain people, the ones we can use, often enough, for the pleasures we treasure. But Jesus says >

"If you love those who love you, what reward have you?" in Matthew 5:46.

And then what can happen . . . if parents treasure children more than loving any and all people? If certain people come along to influence children to be ok with gay stuff, this could result in parents not having grandchildren. And if children are an idol, ones can hate gays for influencing their kids away from providing grandchildren. Ones can hate those they can't use for what they treasure.

And sexual sensations can be a treasure. I have been treated hatefully because certain possibly gay ones could not use me for what they perhaps treasure.

So, hate does not discriminate, about who it uses. But ones screaming in your face, or smart-talking, in the media, can make things look however they want you to see things.

What makes you think we aren't calling those things out? When was the last time someone tried to order an adultery cake, then sue the baker for not making it? When did we ever condone lewd behavior? Why do you insult us by suggesting that we accept blatant racism?

No, the real question is, out of all of the things that Christianity opposes, why is it that leftists are jerking their knees so hard about sexual perversion? That's no small deal. Why are you so sensitive about sexual misconduct, out of all of the Christian precepts? The fact is that it's wrong, and the sexually immoral are going to Hell. I don't condemn a man for jumping up and down and screaming when he sees someone about to get hurt or killed. Why do you condemn a man for getting loud and bothered when he sees someone about to go to Hell?

You might be a true Scotsman, but if your church accepts homosexuality, then it accepts an un-Christian doctrine. Talk to the hand! o_O

We have free speech rights in America - the term hate speech is being used to censor any opinion the left doesn’t want to hear, especially conservatives - thus denying them the right to speak freely.

It’s become just another way to manipulate people.

College campuses are the perfect example of that, having hissy fits and violent protests when a conservative speaker is invited, such as Ben Shapiro.

The right to free speech does not mean the right to have people accept what you're saying, or refrain from demonstrating. Throwing a hissy fit is constitutionally protected, although violence is not.

We really need to understand that "Love one another/ love your enemy" was not a nice thought. Its a command by no man but a GOD. Want to see the heart say "TRUMP". Being on some Christian site changes nothing. The bashing and hate is there for all to read. And almost daily is the 1/2 fake news that is ok. As if Christ love mercy grace forgiveness.. all take a back seat to Politics.

SCJ Alito has some great points. If you stood back and watched what happen the last four year. Its shocking. God used a man to let us see what has always been there. I had said once about listening to John Wayne. It was 1975 talking about how as he laughed never knew how far right he was. How he talked about Washington and Dems/Rep.. you would think he just said this yesterday.

Look how they talk now believing Biden has won (Looks that way). Taking names.. putting names on a major network of those that didn't say anything to Biden. Going foreword your going to have more questions then answers.

We do as brother Arc F1 said.. we treat others as we want to be treated. Something I've done all my life. The closer it gets to Christ coming for His Church.. its clear as whole we are no where near ready.

Want truth? You won't like it.. its from a GOD and He can't lie. "love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."

See we can not back up how we talk treat others. When you talk do be rude. Don't insist on your own way. Don't rejoice be happy at wrongdoing. You know like the world has done for 4 years.

What I love is.. this is our Father but look how we treat others here and as in Trump for a great example. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Were forgiven by a GOD who took our place. And WHOS sins mistakes do we gladly remember? Were the light of this world. We speak truth never 1/2 truths.

Love the lord your God with all your heart soul and mind. Do that do we? Love each other as you love your self. Love your enemy. Its NOT ok not to do these. We see these people day in day out on the Media.. if we can not love those.. we see we do not love Him. Don't get silly here.. this is not ignoring out right lies and things but.. you can do that and LOVE at the same time. Christ was talked about allot in 4years.. that will not happen this time

Except that if you’ve watched that occur, you see them shutting down free speech completely. disrupting speeches so the speaker has to give up, destroying property during their hissy fits, and getting speakers disinvited from even speaking.

your freedom ends where others begin. You can say what you want and think what you want, but when yous start to take freedoms away it's a issue.

The people who did the wedding cake thing went around to very many different bakeries until they finally found someone that wouldn't do it for them. they're purposely looking to stir up trouble and to show how everything is just horrible. They're painting a false picture of our country.

The response of the left only confirms my view that it isn't tolerance they want, but a new order of how society runs and operates. Instead of it being inspired by Christian teaching and standards, it will be run by secular humanist standards, which aren't neutral. No ideology is neutral.

That's fine, so long as we know the terms by which we are competing with each other. Ultimately their goals will target traditional churches and force them to accept ideas and doctrines they don't want. Reminds me of the CCP. No dissent allowed.
