President Trump says he's cutting off FEMA money for California fires

National Parks and National Forests are the responsibility of the federal government, and IIRC more then half of the public land in California is federal.

ETA: IIRC the Camp Fire from last year started on federal land.

So I was incorrect it seems. According to the University of California, the Federal government owns 57% of all forests in California. Another 3% of the forests are owned by the state, and the other 40% is either privately owned or tribal land.

FEMA money is used for disaster relief, not disaster prevention. And as for clearing of under growth and the like, most of California's public land is federal land and it's up to the USFS and the BLM to maintain it.

So then, it's actually Trump's fault? If most of the land is federal land, why doesn't he have people out there raking it. Trump says that raking the land is what keeps forest fires away.

Yeah this is ridiculous. If there's anything Government funds should be used for, it's disaster relief. If they don't support people during disasters, what's the point?
