Time for me to pick the collective brain of CF... :ebil:

So here's the situation... Something is happening in your life that you want prayer for. Could be a good something or a bad something, doesn't matter. Some friends, or co-workers, or acquaintances, or whatever, comes to you and says they will pray to their god for you. Obviously you know they are not of the Christian faith or believe in the Judeo/Christian God. You do know that the people praying are doing it in a genuine, heartfelt way with a true hope to help you.

1) What do you think about the gesture?
2) What do you say to them?
3) Do you think their prayer will have an effect?

3) In some way it will.

1. It means they care and I'm appreciative of that.
2. Thank you so much!
3. I don't know honestly. But it doesn't bother me.

1 the gesture is fine
2 thanks
3 it may or may not, but it can't do any harm

As long as they don't have an altar with black candles and an upside down cross, I don't mind anyone praying to their deity for me. If they did have said altar and black candles etc, I would politely decline, however.

I would appreciate their concern and willingness to help in whatever way they can. I'm inclined to think their prayers would be better than none and would thank them for taking the time.

This.

Telling them "don't pray for me to your god" isn't really sending the right message. Seems rude and ungrateful. And a bit righteous. Them telling me they will pray for me tells me that they care enough about me and my situation that they are willing to take time out of their schedule. That is touching no matter what the specifics are.

We've had this thread before...deja vu!

1. I'd think it was very thoughtful and kind.
2. I'd probably say something like "that's very nice of you". I don't think I'd say "thank you" because I wouldn't be thankful for prayers going nowhere on my behalf.
3. Nope.

1) What do you think about the gesture?
I think it's kind of them to care enough to want to pray for me.

2) What do you say to them?
Thank you.

3) Do you think their prayer will have an effect?
It's certainly possible that God will still hear the prayers.
