Prayer to Saint Michael Archangel​

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle, and in the struggle which is ours against the principalities and Powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against spirits of evil in high places. Come to the aid of men, whom God created immortal, made in his own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.

Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there a place for them any longer in Heaven. But that cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with all his angels.

where has been set up the See of the most blessed Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered. Arise then, O invincible prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and bring them the victory. (emphasis added)

The Church venerates thee as protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of this world and of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.

Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. St. Michael Protect Us! In 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a vision of Jesus giving Satan 100 years to try to destroy Christ’s Church on earth. I thought a thread on St. Michael Archangel would be interesting and timely. How do you see St. Michael? What do you think of Pope Leo XII’s ‘Prayer to St. Michael Archangel’? Do you see St. Michael as going into battle with the devil, on earth, in our near future, ‘End Times’? Do you think St. Michael Archangel may already be on earth now, preparing for battle with Satan?

At the end of Pope Leo XIII’s vision, he sees Archangel Michael thrusting all the demons back into hell.

Good question! I don't think this is the Catholic forum or limited to Catholics only.

Angels are messengers and mediators between God and men. Angels such as our guardian angel and an Archangel such as St. Michael can and do hear our prayers. They carry the prayers directly to God.

And of course you can petition and pray directly to God!

As far as asking an angel for help, I say Why not? I can and do pray directly to God but also ask others to also pray for others and for me too. As a "cradle" Catholic, it feels natural to do so.

One can pray to God and an angel or saint at the same time, e.g. praying when in immediate danger:

Lord make haste to help me!
Lord Jesus, save me!
Lord, have mercy!
St. Michael, defend me!

You most likely don't accept the Deuterocanonical books such as Tobit (one of my favorites!) as Scripture, but the Early Church did and Catholics and (I believe) the Orthodox do.

We Catholics pray to the Blessed Mother and angels, because God wills it. God has been sending messages to the Catholic Church, through apparitions, locutions, visions and miracles since St. Peter himself received visions from God. I have not heard of verifiable miracles through the Protestant faiths, but I am willing to read about any instances if you have them.

Here is how it works. Take Our Lady of Guadalupe, for example, The Blessed Mother appears in an apparition in Mexico and tells little Juan Diego, a pheasant boy, that she wants a church built in her honor. Juan tells his bishop. The bishop thinks Juan is crazy. The Blessed Mother tells Juan to ask again. The bishop asks for a miracle. The Blessed Mother delivers. Juan's sick uncle is healed and Juan delivers flowers, not native to Mexico, and in Juan's cloak. Juan delivers the flowers and on his cloak is a miraculous image of the Blessed Mother. Because of the miracles that back up the Blessed Mother's requests, we do what She tells us to do. The Catholic Church did build a church in the Blessed Mother's honor as the Blessed Mother requested because we know that this is the will of God the Father and Jesus.

In the Second Secret of Fatima, the Blessed Mother tells us that God wills the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The bishop asks for a sign from the Blessed Mother. The 'Miracle of the dancing sun' (1917), was witnessed by 60,000 people. Both faithful and scoffers alike witnessed it. So the Catholic Church is devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as God the Father wills us to.

Second Secret of Fatima​

“You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end: but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the Pontificate of Pius XI. God giving the Catholic Church messages, guiding Her along, is not new. St. Peter received a vision from God in the bible and because of it, we are now allowed to eat pork.

Acts 10:9 The Vision of Peter.
The next day, while they were on their way and nearing the city, Peter went up to the roof terrace to pray at about noon time. He was hungry and wished to eat, and while they were making preparations he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered to the ground by its four corners. Pope Leo XIII receiving a vision from God, that God is going to allow Satan to try and bring the Church down, and even possibly the Pope, is not out of line from how God has sent messages to guide His Church from the beginning. The Holy Spirit guiding Pope Leo XIII to pray to St. Michael Archangel is similar to the Catholic Church having devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Catholic Church does these things because God Wills His people to do these things, and God has preformed many miracles, apparitions and locutions from heaven to lead us this way. In 1902, Pope Leo XIII gave an abbreviated version of his 'Prayer to St. Michael Archangel'. In the 1902 version we see a clear link to the apocalyptic Book of Revelation 20. This version of Pope Leo XIII's 'Prayer to St. Michael Archangel', is clearly a prayer to God to send His army soon, to establish Messianic Reign, on earth. In this prayer, Pope Leo XIII is also intending that St. Michael Archangel will be Christ's Great Warrior in our, near future, Battle of Armageddon.

And just how do you know what God Commands?

God did not directly give us the Ten Commandments. God gave us His Ten Commandments through His Prophet Moses. It was only Moses who stood before the Lord, as God's intermediary, and Mosses then delivered God's Message, the Ten Commandments, to God's people.

Like Moses, angels are God's Messengers, or, intermediaries, between God and His people on earth.

Angels: In Abrahamic religions and Zoroastrianism, angels are often depicted as benevolent celestial beings who act as intermediaries between God or Heaven and Humanity.

I say God describing Michael as, 'liken unto God', is for the same reason God describes Moses as, 'liken unto God'. As God delivers Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land, through intermediary Moses, so now will God deliver, Remnant Israel (Christ's Church), out of symbolic Babylon and into the Promised Land Two, of Messianic Reign, through intermediary, Archangel Michael. It is Moses and Micheal's message, not their righteousness, which makes them 'liken unto God'. Intermediary Archangel Michael, works with intermediary, the Blessed Mother, Who's Immaculate Heart will Triumph over Satan.

Catholic Apostolic Successors have the Firepower
to Be Archangel Michael and his Combat Angels of the Apocalypse​

The Blessed Mother has revealed Herself as the Protector of Her Children, Christ’s faithful, in the conflict ahead. I think it will be, Catholic Apostolic Successors, who will be Jesus Army of Combat Angels, in our, near future, Battle of Armageddon. Apostolic Successors, in possession of the ‘Sword of Christ’s Mouth’, which binds sins, and in possession of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which loosts sins, can and will, separate out the Elect from the damned on earth. In the Book of Revelation, Jesus is Pronounced King and Ruler of the world, at the precise moment when the Great Angel finishes reading the small scroll. Jesus is not King and Ruler of the world till His subjects, Apostolic Successors/Combat Angels of the Apocalypse, put His Laws into enforcement on earth. Once the ‘small scroll’ of auto-anathemas is read by Apostolic Successors, we go into Messianic Reign, aka, Christ’s Kingdom Come, on earth.

Under Messianic Reign, the world immediately goes through the prophesied “Three Days of Darkness”. During the ‘Three Days of Darkness’, the earth is purified by the, Wrath of the Lamb, and the wicked are no more. The Elect, who have prepared themselves, as the Blessed Mother has requested, survive, and Jesus will wipe away their every tear. The meek, humble and pure of heart shall inherit the earth. Let us take a look at the weapons of the opposing forces, Archangel Michael vs. Satan, aka the snake, at our near future Battle of Armageddon.

Satan, the snake, cannot actually commit physical sin and evil on earth. Satan’s weapon on earth, is temptation. Once tempted by Satan, it is free willed man that actually does the will of Satan and commits the actual evil sins and evil on earth. Satan’s big gun on earth, with which he does so much evil, is convincing mankind that they will not spiritually die for the sins and evil they are committing.

Archangel Michael’s, hurl into hell, big gun, is the ‘Sword of Christ’s Mouth’, which is Jesus’ lips binding sinners to sin, which is Catholic Church anathema. Jesus is King. Our King Jesus has armed His great Combat Angels/Apostolic Successors, with the ‘Sword of Christ’s Mouth’. Our King Jesus, simply has to give the order for the ‘Sword of His Mouth’ to be deployed on earth, by His army of Angels/Apostles, to engage His great foe, Satan, in battle.

He wore a cloak that had been dipped in blood, and his name was the Word of God. The armies of heaven were behind him riding white horses and dressed in fine linen, pure and white. Out of his mouth came a sharp sword for striking down the nations. He will shepherd them with an iron rod; it is he who will tread out in the winepress the blazing wrath of God the Almighty. A name was written on the part of the cloak that covered his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords."...

Revelation 14:12
Here is what sustains the holy ones who keep God’s commandments and their faith in Jesus. I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” said the Spirit, “let them find rest from their labors, for their works accompany them.”

Then I looked and there was a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud one who looked like a son of man, with a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one sitting on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap the harvest, for the time to reap has come, because the earth’s harvest is fully ripe.” So the one who was sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven who also had a sharp sickle. Then another angel (came) from the altar, (who) was in charge of the fire, and cried out in a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sharp sickle and cut the clusters from the earth’s vines, for its grapes are ripe.” So the angel swung his sickle over the earth and cut the earth’s vintage. He threw it into the great wine press of God’s fury. The wine press was trodden outside the city and blood poured out of the wine press to the height of a horse’s bridle for two hundred miles.

Declare this among the nations: proclaim a war, rouse the warriors to arms! Let all the soldiers report and march! Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak man say, “I am a warrior!” Hasten and come, all you neighboring peoples, assemble there!(Bring down, O Lord, your warriors!) Let the nations bestir themselves and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit in judgment upon all the neighboring nations. Apply the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; Come and tread, for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for great is their malice.

Revelation 20:1 Thousand Year Reign.
Then I saw an angel come down from heaven, holding the key to the abyss and a huge chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil or Satan, and chained him up for a thousand years. The angel hurled him into the abyss, which he closed and sealed over him. He did this so that the dragon might not lead the nations astray until the thousand years are over. After this, the dragon is to be released for a short time.

Revelation 12:5
She gave birth to a son--a boy destined to shepherd all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and to his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert, where a special place had been prepared for her by God; there she was taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days...

...Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. Although the dragon and his angels fought back, they were overpowered and lost their place in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent known as the devil or Satan, the seducer of the whole world, was driven out; he was hurled down to earth and his minions with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, the reign of our God and the authority of his Anointed One. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who night and day accused them before our God. They defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death.

Isaiah 11:1 The Rule of Immanuel
But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, But he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide fairly for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around his waist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips. Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat; The calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them.
