Please pray for us all in Manchester, following the suicide bomber attack last night on an event at Manchester Arena where 22 have died, so far. The audience was children and teens, many attending the event with parents or grandparents.

60 injured. There will be schools / Uni classes with missing students today - pray for those whose friends have died or have been injured.

A friend from church shared this poem with me and our fellow members earlier today. It was written in response to the bombings in London on 7 July 2005, but I'm finding it just as helpful in my prayers for all those caught up in this act of terror in Manchester:

Breaking news by Pam Chance

What can I bring to you in this moment?
You have my compassion, unconditional love,
I hold you close in my prayers.

As reporters roll out their stories,
I know this news can never break
the love God has for you.

I am not alone—others pray around the world—
joined in unsolicited agreement to do their best
to witness to your unfailing strength.

I do not disregard your pain, your loss, your grief—
but remember always the promise of the Master,
‘I will not leave you comfortless…’

Fear will not claim you, nor hate destroy you.
Terror will never make you weak. You are eternal.
The child of divine and unceasing Love.

At our church we still currently have our "He is Risen" window display for Easter, which we normally leave in place until Ascension Day (this Thursday) — we've also added to it the words "Evil cannot win."

May every grieving heart know His comfort and love that no darkness can ever destroy.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world.

(John 14:27; 16:33, NIV)
