The Vatican and the pope are a complete sham. They are evil incarnate.

That's true, but the topic concerns Controversial Christian Theology and it was the opinions of Christians that we were looking at.

Even among Christians, however, not everyone seems to believe that the active ingredient in salvation is Christ. Hence the heartburn if it's suggested that a person could be saved apart from knowing Christ. Christ doesn't seem to be enough; those being saved have to "know" or "believe" in him first, otherwise his status as savior—and theirs as saved—is a no-go. In other words, Christ (apparently) can't do it alone without our help.

As my Jesuit theology professor would say "It depends." Depends on the dialogue.

What would you consider valid or fruitful interfaith dialogue? What should be avoided?

Foul language should probably be avoided. As well as the assumption that one's religion of choice is the One True Religion™, because so many religions consider themselves that already, and look where it's gotten them.

Actually this Pope is a breath of fresh air... A Pope for the people (Liberation Theology) rather than a Pope for the Church hierarchy.

I'm glad someone finally admitted such in these forums. Yes Pope Francis is the very first post-modern Liberation Theology Pope.

He does have a heart for the people, especially young people when he rated youth unemployment as the greatest evil facing our society.

Considering Christians are getting their heads chopped off almost daily, abortion and ISIS did not get the top nod.
