None of this addresses the intention of those who are harping on this. That's what my post was about.

Sure, but the law either lets them do it or it doesn't. Trump supporters on here argued that the national emergency law lets Trump do his emergency, no matter if the intent is to really counter a national emergency. The avalanche has already started; it's too late for the pebbles to vote.

I look forward to the debate in Federal Court (where this is all headed)....it seems to me an attorney could easily make the case that a Congressional Committee has a legitimate interest in knowing whether the POTUS is compromised based on his financial interest.

However, I'm no attorney...so I will defer to the court arguments to come...

I guess it's the example that got me confused....

I mean, selling stock for a client isn't done for the broker's benefit....but the broker selling their own stock in the same company is.

Could you come up with a better example than the one in the link? Is it basically just a form of insider trading?

Give yourself more credit, Ana. Devise an example and show yourself you understand what self-dealing means. I may not agree with a lot of what you say, but I strongly believe you are quite intelligent enough to grasp the issue.

Clinton Foundation! Millions of dollars of donations/bribes. Managing to go bankrupt despite all their influence from last time in the Presidency.

The political system is heading to collectivism. Too big to fail. Satanic economy.

RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA...…………(…..)………………….. TAX RETURNS!!!! IMPEACH IMPEACH!

Oh he won't release his Tax returns... Let's write in a law that requires him to, or use judicial authority to order him to make public his tax returns. Continue to weaponize the IRS like Obama did. Would make Al Capone blush, tax returns...

The Democrats are so powerful, they created a time machine to write a law in 1924 in order to get Trump's taxes!

The president is not required to have a security clearance. The president is the authority who grants clearances. It's just one of the realities of the system.

I'm sorry, but that answer makes zero sense.
The idea that we check everyone who is going to have access to vital national security info except for the one person who is going to have access to all of it is absurd.

The president is not required to have a security clearance. Google "is the president required to have a security clearance".

I do understand what you are saying. Trust me, I do. But then suppose a person is elected president who has a criminal record or some other impairment to getting a security clearance? Are they to not have access to classified information? Should they not have access to the nuclear football?

The people elect the president. The president has access to classified information. It's just the reality of our system.

!Oh he won't release his Tax returns... Let's write in a law that requires him to, or use judicial authority to order him to make public his tax returns.

I would just like to point out the two errors in your reasoning here.

1. Technically, they're no longer "his" returns. Once they're submitted to the IRS, they're their returns. Those returns are therefore government property... and the government wants a closer look.

2. There is no need to write a new law, as we already have a law on the books (since 1924, IIRC) that says the IRS must comply with a Congressional request to turn over an individual's tax returns. If Donald didn't want the government to see them, he never should have submitted them.

Of course, tax evasion carries a fine of up to $250,000 and up to five years in prison, so...

It (Security Clearence) is attached to the OFFICE. Whoever holds the office benefits from this...the “thinking” is that the person holding the office is “above scrutiny”...after all they are the President!

Let the Russians go, alde... obsession is unhealthy.

Let them go? But....but Trump is working for them, right? He's a Russian agent! We can't let it go. We need to find something against Trump because we can't stand the fact that he was elected to be president.

Or because of his history of tax fraud. Or activities which on the face of them look a lot like money laundering. Or his problems with election finance laws. Or any number of other reasons.

Show us the tax fraud he was convicted of.

Obviously, if the person is compromised in a way that puts the lives of 320 million people in danger should we give them information vital to national security....then no.

The people elect the president. The president has access to classified information. It's just the reality of our system.

Call me naive...I honestly thought if such issues were present in a candidate, they were weeded out prior to nomination.

That seems like it should be a genuine concern.

Let the election go as well, alde... two obsessions are twice as unhealthy.

Well, suppose some person's claim to fame was being arrested and imprisoned by an unfair, unfit, uncaring government. He then turned that fame unto some urban myth of oppression on the part of government and ran as the voice of the people against tyranny. Popularity is as popular as any other form of populism.

The request for the birth certificate was originally started by Hilary Clinton, as Obama's main political opponent.
No it wasn't, although it was started by one of her supporters, Philip Berg.

The American Justice system and most of the American people have become rotten. The same people that let off the Billionaire Paedophile Epstein and Isaac Asimov's son, with community service . Are the same people looking into Donald Trump.
The Justice system is far from perfect, but if you totally disregard it, America becomes a failed state of anarchy.

Demographics though has now all but, assured victory for the Democrats. So even if Trump gets a second term, it won't matter. The number of Democrat supporters are greater, remnants of a Republic are part of the reason he got elected with less votes than Hilary. One party system from now on.
Democrats have been in the majority for a while now, but we elect Republicans and people like Donald anyway.

No Trump shouldn't release his tax returns.
He should, since he said he would, but at the very least, he should release it to the committee in Congress that has oversight.

He should declare martial law and start mass deportations or succeed California from the Union, but he won't or can't.
Can't.

He didn't take a salary, he could have stayed out of politics, continued to only serve his own greed if that's what people think.
Yes, serving his greed is exactly what people think.
