According to Politifact, an incredible 82% of Rush Limbaugh's claims fall into the categories of Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire. Atrocious lies are rated “Pants on Fire.” If you add in claims that are Half True, the figure goes up to 93%.

In other words, Politifact finds that about 7% of what Rush Limbaugh says is true. That's not very much.

Rush is a dishonest fear-peddler, but no, that's not what the Politifact numbers say. What the numbers say is that OF THE CLAIMS THAT THEY CHOOSE TO ANALYZE, those percentages are true/false. I'm not aware of any place that Politifact claims that their selection is statistically representative of the whole of Limbaugh's statements.

Perhaps Limbaugh's biggest lie of 2014 is the claim that the Obama Administration planned the influx of children over the border with Mexico. Politifact rated this claim as “Pants on Fire,” in other words, an atrocious lie.

This rating is informed by the views of members of the Border Patrol and other people with direct experience of the situation. There is a difference between planning for a predictable crisis and causing the crisis, Politifact explains.

Rush Limbaugh's opinions are independently audited, and certified to be 98.7% right. (That number may be more or less, as it is audited regularly.)

You know that's just a long-running joke, right? There is no "opinion audit."

Only his opinions are allegedly audited, not his misstatements of fact:

And when he gets something wrong, it's his staff's fault (which is part of the joke):

True. But he does make a lot of false statements.

Audited by the independent firm Dittohead and Associates......

Seems it is worse than that. He gave the name of the firm and they are an investment advice firm. As such they would not even have an auditing department.

Oops.

I guess we should all trust MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, WAPO, etc. for the truth. These outlets never lie and are 100% accurate.

On the other hand, it's not a very fair comparison. Afterall, Limbaugh is not a news outlet. His is an opinion based, political entertainment radio show. The others claim to be a source of news. And therein lies the difference.

When those who oppose him wish to belittle him, they agree that he is JUST AN ENTERTAINER, so as to say no one should take what he says seriously.

They try to have their cake and eat it , too. If we check, we can probably find some of those among these posters!

Where I live, many folks believe that Rush Limbaugh is a source of news.

As for the other outlets you mention, that would be a different thread, wouldn't it?

Sorry but the lie is your denial.
Here's another source with an actual copy of the government ad.

Rush was right. Your source is deliberately lying.

People who base their lives and ideals on a talk show host aren't very (I don't want to say educated) sophisticated and are very opinionated without having the ability to discern partial truth from political truth. While most politically conservative talk show hosts, as long as they deal in facts, such as the results of liberal actions and their words, stick to that, they are right on; but when they start to interject their personal conservative and religious view into their commentary, that is where the listener needs to be able to discern between the latter. Liberal talk show fails miserably because everyone who listens, whether conservative or liberal in their politics, know that what they are saying are bold faced lies; while conservative talk shows succeed because the majority of what they say is true as proven by recent historical events. One must learn where to draw the line where it comes to biting into the rhetoric.

About a decade ago when I was a republican I was listening to him in the car. He was talking about something a reporter said that was amazingly anti-american.

The biggest mistake he made that day? He made the error of actually playing the reporters comments just before he told us what she "really meant" her words were 180 to what he claimed she actually meant.

Few years later same thing happened with Hannity, he made the claim that one of the Kennedys made a pretty wild statement. So wild that I had to actually look up what the man had said, it took an amazing amount of stretching and pulling to take what the man had actually said to what Hannity claimed he said.

If the only way to advance your cause is by deception perhaps you should rethink your cause.

If I held to that perception then I would brand all liberals as insane liars and never converse with them at all. Part of what we all bring to any discussion is our own perspective. We use this perspective to interpret things we see and hear. What we see and hear may be interpreted differently depending on our viewpoint. For example, you may hear "share the wealth" and think it's altruism. I hear "share the wealth" and I hear socialist dogma. Perhaps some read disdain for the military into Obama's pronunciation of the word "corpseman."

For the record, I've never seen Hannity or Limbaugh deliberately lie about a subject, though I admit I don't always see things the way they do. Al Sharpton, however, is a bold faced liar. Funny how you never see any articles about his veracity rating.
