Nor I. :) I'm just bored and looking for a light-hearted debate instead of more serious subjects that tend to get out of control and get people into trouble and the thread end up getting shut down. ;)
I am probably looking more for the "lighthearted" and less for the "debate", so the danger of you getting into trouble or your thread getting shut down is quite low. :) However, I will make a "note to self" before I post in one of your threads again. ;)

LOL, nooooo...I meant we are engaged in a light-hearted debate here. ;) Meaning, I consider this just a bit of fun and a distraction from the heated and serious debates around the forum. :)

Difficult one for me...
I think I'm sooooooo socialist in my economic and social views, compared to the American views. So that would lean me to the liberals. I'm pro life, so that makes me conservative...
I think I'm morally conservative and social-economically liberal? IF that makes any sense?
that is 'liberal' in the sense that I assume is used here. Do not associate me with the VLD party. (Flemish Liberal Democrats) *shudders*

For me, the paradox in this is that while I would, undoubtedly, style myself as a conservative, looking at the names of people who have responded, in general I have more respect for more of the people who selected liberal than those who selected conservative.

Not true in all cases, of course, but generally the majority of the people I have seen on this board as reasonable in their ability to discuss issues and willingness to really look at different sides and actual information--the people I most enjoy discussing things with--the majority said liberal.

Some conservatives on this board might, perhaps, want to think of why that is.

Oh, and milk_man? Question for you. How do you reconcile being a fiscal conservative with being socially liberal, as most socially liberal policies would have to counter the fiscal conservatism?

i reckon in his day Jesus was considered liberal the term has changed a bit since then
I don't think the term was in use then. But what he preached, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", nothing legitimizing rule by the rich and plenty affirming the dignity of the poor, etc., I have no doubt he'd be considered a liberal if discussing today's world.

To wit:

1) On some issues, particularly legal rights for gays, ordination of women and gays, rehabilitation of prisoners, etc. I'm very liberal.

2) On some issues, particularly social issues, I'm actually libertarian. If two consenting adults want to engage in some behavior privately, that's their right and the government ought to butt out! If people want to take drugs, they're going to take drugs -- so let's legalize the stuff, make sure it's pure, and get organized crime OUT of it (with the caveat that if someone kills or injures someone, or damages their property while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they WILL be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will NOT be a mitigating circumstance).

3) I'm actually a fiscal conservative -- although I would allocate the money very differently from the way this administration is allocating it. The FBI, CIA and NSA should be under one organizational structure, and sharing and coordinating information with each other so we don't have duplication of effort (so we could do far more with MUCH less money); and I'd institute strict accounting controls so the taxpayers aren't being bilked for $1,200 hammers and $10 nails. If we actually streamlined our defense system, we could cut the amount of money from our gross national product which goes to defense, use the money far more efficiently than we do now, and give the actual troops a badly-needed raise!

4) One can change the music inside a Lutheran service -- but I get really bent out of shape when people start tampering with the text in the liturgy, especially with regards to the Nicene Creed and the Eucharist!

Hey we are catching up...

Yea! Yes we are, though just barely conservative some of us may be. Still qualifies us to hang out with really cool guys like JtB, Hix, Borealis 'B' and James Eric, and the super women- Brewmama and Hen! :pink:
And lots of others I'll think of later :)

 It looks like jameseb and his 3 ring circus of conservatives have resurfaced again. Things have got pretty boring since the "safehouse" days. I've noticed jameseb that you've changed your flag again. What you should consider changing is "turning from the dark side" and joining the liberals. It'll make your parents happy and I hear its good for growing hair.
