Politics is by far is the most contentious thing we could ever follow. The bible says that we should not fret when evil men prosper in their wickedness, so why do we fret over politics? Also, the bible teaches that contention and division within the Church is wrong. Why are we divided over politics?

Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
    Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
    Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

See here, the wisdom from above is pure, not diluted with the Lies of politicians, its also gentle, willing to yield, and peaceable, unlike politics.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy

What should christians do when they disagree (some of which fall into the political realm) ?

BTW, I agree with you that christians shouldn't separate into contending camps based upon our disagreements.

I have been disappointed by actions and words from BOTH sides of our political divide ...

Personally i believe we shouldn't listen to politicians because its they who divide us. They should be treated like teachers because they do teach us and lead us, however they are the wrong kind of teacher.

Let's face it ... the Church has had plenty of division without the involvement of politicians, ... unless it is your position that RELIGIOUS politicians are the cause of most Church division.

I'll admit that I've never thought of politicians being a type of teacher, ...

Do you think that it is true that many in the Church FOLLOW politicians ... or, rather, that they ALIGN with politicians which most represent their beliefs ?

Just because the Church has had divisions before, this doesnt make it right. Thats like saying i have always been a sinner so there is no reason to stop sinning now.

Think of it this way. Teachers teach by example and words too. Peter said that the Church elders should lead by example. Politicians lead us by example and words too, therefore they fit the definition of a teacher.

"Politics" has the same root word as "policy."
These words refer to rules of behavior.

Rules of behavior are the skeletal structure of any group.
The policies we make for ourselves are of paramount importance.
    Politics are important.

It is good that we contend with each other about politics, at all levels.
It is good that we check our behaviors with each other, express ourselves, explain our points of view.
Sure, we do make each other mad...
We all have our own ideas and opinions and we all need to believe we are right...

But when the mad wears away a little, we still have the information we've gathered...
    Which brings us understanding.
Understanding increases the likelihood of cooperation.
Cooperation increases the likelihood of both group and individual success.

    It's good to discuss politics.
We can adapt and refine our behaviors that way.

    And that's good.

I respectfully disagree. I see how horrible politics makes people feel and act. Politics are mans wisdom, but not Gods wisdom. Gods wisdom is to seek the kingdom, not the politics of worldly politicians. Gods wisdom is to be gentle, kind, meek, but politics are none of those things. Politics are full of covetousness, hate, discord. You are trying to make heresy into acceptable doctrine.

Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

We are supposed to be holy. However politics makes us look and sound like the world, who argues over mans wisdom, instead of being united in one mind and voice, as we are taught. Politics divides us..

    2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore

    “Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
    And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
    Says the Lord Almighty.”

You are not applying the rules of behavior prescribed by your religion to the rules of behavior for your society.

You separate your religion from your society.
    I don't understand this.

Many of our American policies are based on some of the Ten Commandments.
We have laws against killing and stealing and lying, etc.
Our politics already DO reflect many of our religious beliefs.

Why do you separate the two?

And what's so "worldly" about rules of behavior?

Yes i am separating politics from faith in the Lord. Holiness is a separation from the world. have you considered the scriptures i posted? The laws of America would still be there whether you are involved in politics or not. We must put faith in God and be holy. Being holy isnt about making America a godly nation, no its about making the Church a Godly Church.

    No, no, no.
    We live in a democracy.
    You have power in it.
You can shirk this power and complain about how you don't have any power and how "it's all up to God" and how you don't have to lift a finger...

    Yeah...you can go that route...

But Jesus knows you don't lift a finger.
    He hears you complain.

    Me?
    I don't go that route.
    I follow Jesus.

I can serve the Lord without politics.
Politicians lead us astray, into covetousness, contention, and dividing us into factions. Thats not the right path. The Church isnt supposed to be divide over Democrats and Republicans. Thats not the love or faith we are taught. All good things come from God, not Obama or Trump.

Look here, do you see that politics are works of the flesh? I do.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

BTW, i dont complain about anything. Another reason i dont follow politicians anymore. They are the ones complaining, not me. People follow politicians and all they do is complain. Why would you say i complain then?

No, its not me doing the complaining, no sir.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say:

    “The Lord is my helper;
    I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”

When we serve politicians we forsake our first love, Jesus. Isn't He our helper? Paul said to be anxious for nothing but in ALL THINGS pray. Does God not hear us that we need a politicians help?

James 5:9 Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.

1 Corinthians 5:10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
