I wonder if Trump personally ordered the use of CS gas?

Either way, it's the sort of despicable act I expect to see in a banana republic.

Nah... Donald's a '"wartime president," remember?

If he had a say in it, he'd have ordered live ammo.

There was one guy whose death was ruled a suicide. He managed to shoot himself in the head while handcuffed in the back, after he had been searched by police before being put in the police vehicle.
Criminals are very clever.

Yesterday, June 1, 2020 ... peaceful protests at the White House were dispersed prior to curfew ... to clear the area before Trump marched to the historic St. John's Church

A top National Guard official will tell Congress that the widely criticized decision to forcefully clear protesters from a park outside the White House last month was made even though demonstrators were acting peacefully, a view at odds with public comments by top Trump administration officials.

The prepared testimony of DC National Guard Major Adam D. DeMarco, who is set to appear before a hearing on Tuesday, challenges Attorney General William Barr's account of the dispersal.
"The demonstrators were behaving peacefully, exercising their First Amendment rights," DeMarco is expected to say, adding he was surprised the clearing operation began well in advance of a 7 p.m. ET curfew set by Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Barr has previously defended the use of force to clear the protesters, saying his decision to disperse protesters followed signs that the crowd was "becoming increasingly unruly." The removal, he said, had nothing to do with a photo-op staged by President Donald Trump minutes later,

Barr has previously defended the use of force to clear the protesters, saying his decision to disperse protesters followed signs that the crowd was "becoming increasingly unruly." The removal, he said, had nothing to do with a photo-op staged by President Donald Trump minutes later,
from the article:
"DeMarco, who described himself as one of the senior National Guard officials on the scene, ran as a Democrat for Maryland's 3rd Congressional District in 2018."
"The acting chief of the US Park Police is set to tell Congress that demonstrators were cleared from the park outside the White House once security fencing arrived for installation.
Park Police acting Chief Gregory Monahan's prepared opening statement states: "Once the fencing arrived, an on-the-ground assessment of the violence and danger presented by the crowd led to the clearing of the Park and the installation of the fence." "Interior Secretary David Bernhardt told House Natural Resources Chairman Raul Grijalva of Arizona that protesters were "assaulting law enforcement with projectiles while threatening to storm the secured areas."

Yesterday, June 1, 2020 ... peaceful protests at the White House were dispersed prior to curfew ... to clear the area before Trump marched to the historic St. John's Church ... where he held up a Bible ... upside down ...

The IG report from the Dept of Interior says that the area was cleared in order to install anti-scale fencing that had been previously planned.

Obviously this action fortuitously allowed Trump to move through the space freely. He could not have done the photo-op if the area hadn't been cleared. But the clearing was not done because of the photo op. It looks like the arrow of causality went the other way. Certainly I think we can agree that the photo op was not a spontaneous outpouring of Trump's religious devotion. So, knowing that the area was to be cleared for other reasons, the team scheduled the speech and photo op.

US Park Police did not disperse racial justice protesters in Washington last year so that then-President Donald Trump could pose for photos, a report has found.

Officers used chemical irritant and rubber bullets to clear Lafayette Park on 1 June.

The report focused on how and when police made the decision to clear the park, and did not investigate allegations of individual use-of-force incidents.

It found that three warnings had been issued to those at the park, but acknowledged that some people may not have heard the warning and that the warning did not tell people how to exit the area.

So what you are saying is that the media lied about Trump? Impossible.

So what you are saying is that the media lied about Trump? Impossible.

It's a 2021 political principle, "The Trump Rule". For every 99 times Trump lies about the media, they get to lie once about him.

You appear to be so wrapped up in your preconceived biases that you can't even look at what the truth might be. It doesn't matter that various news organizations were on the air at the time, such as the Australian News team, and that their reports establish when the attacks occurred and that they heard no orders to clear the square. It doesn't matter that their report is the basis for an International incident? You somehow think that despite their being on air, and despite the Australian government investigating and choosing to make this an issue, that they are lying?

IG: Park Police used excessive force against 2 journalists

The Australian journalists were covering a protest near the White House on June 1, 2020

The IG’s office said it had sent its report finding the officers violated Park Police policy to National Park Service Director Chuck Sams “for any action deemed appropriate.”

The attack on June 1, 2020, led to a congressional investigation and angered the Australian government, which requested an investigation after the incident aired on live television.
