I wonder if we don't see things from different points of view. My point of view is that the Lord led me to repent of sins I was committing, and suddenly my life was transformed into something very beautiful. (I think that is what Jesus was describing in Matthew 4:17.) However, when I share this with people, some protest vigorously.

I don't understand why that would lead people to protest vigorously?

I don't think they like the idea of repenting. They think there is a better way.

Strange why would anyone NOT like it when someone is doing it.

Sin = mistake in the Greek context. Repent is to turn away from sin or simply to stop making mistakes.

Repenting can be simply stated as "to stop making mistakes".

So it's really strange when the concept of repenting seem to annoy some Christians. To stop making mistakes is a very good thing. To keep making mistakes on the otherhand is a bad thing. If anyone does something like it in a relationship despite what is being told, it maybe a sign they don't love you enough :)

That seems crazy, since Jesus clearly spoke about it and instructed his apostles to tell others to repent. Then Peter in Acts 2 address told those who were concerned that they needed to repent. Acts records that more than once.

But they will claim that we can't stop sinning.

I think some Christians sort of skip over the four gospels.

But they will claim that we can't stop sinning.
"You" might have been able to stop sinning, can everybody...?

Another note: Maybe it's when you push that your way, is the way it is, or happens, for everybody, that they protest...

Mine is gradual and over time, as I learn...

I am glad yours is working for you, though I have doubts about your sinlessness, but I'm not gonna bring that up right now...

God Bless!

...you mean we can stop sinning altogether or we can stop committing certain sins?

I think we can obey the commandments. I think that's good enough.

Well when I read this:
But they will claim that we can't stop sinning.
it kind of made several of us wonder what you meant by it.
tulc(didn't want to jump to a false conclusion which is why he asked) :)

Me three? @dreadnought .. are you saying that a Christian cannot (or will not) sin again, once they've become a Christian, or do you mean something else?

Thanks!

--David
No, that is not what I am saying. We are constantly faced with temptation. Sometimes we fail to resist. Well, hopefully the day comes we won't fail to resist.
