The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

First of all, I hate to admit it but I have from time to time some interesting phobias.
1) Fear that I am only mediocre, or average. I struggle with that a lot. Even occasionally take aptitude tests, and IQ tests. Apparently I have a high IQ. But just as anorexic aren't quite thin enough for themselves, I am frustratingly only a borderline genius. That really makes me feel like chopped liver. I hide it, and constantly avoid anything that might reveal I am not IQ 200. Like I avoid playing chess with my son, because I fear he might beat me. Weird, huh?
2)I have had serious problems with closterphobia. I used to work a lot in medical breast imaging, where the rooms are very small, I suppose to foster a sense of safety, and privacy. But I would break out in a sweat, and beg people to let me keep the door cracked even a quarter inch.
One of most recurrent dreams in getting stuck caving. Yikes, I hate that.
That's enough for now.
Okay, the good stuff.
Without beating around the bush anymore. Perfect Love is JESUS, the person of God. That's why perfect love can CAST OUT fear. You gotta get Jesus Christ inside you, or if you are a Christian, give him permission to actually clean house on your fears, i.e. let him kick 'em out! Also it helps to actually visualize Christ living in your mind, body, and soul. And begin to move and act expectantly that Jesus has the rights to live his life in you. Doubt he's there? Ask him to FILL you with his Holy Spirit, even several times a day. Focus your mind on the person of Christ inside of you, in spirit. Then be prepared to begin to see yourself (Really Jesus) actually confront your fears directly. For me he challenges me to do the very things I avoid. Play chess, or crawl under the house to fix a leaking pipe, for example. Man that's overcoming in Christ. Oh yeah!
Cherberrie said:BTW, I saw my psych today for a med check-up and asked him about emetophobia. He said he wasn't too familiar with it but he had another patient that apparently is an emetophobe. I gave him the link to pass along to her and anyone else that might need it. I am extremely glad you posted that link Galadriel!
to all!
