Two women affiliated with PETA, Victoria Carey and Jennifer Wood, traveled to Accomack, Virginia, because they said a mobile home park owner asked for help capturing wild dogs and feral cats. The women removed an unattended and unleashed Chihuahua named Maya, which was a Christmas president to 9-year-old Cynthia Zarate. Maya was put down later that day, a violation of a state law that requires a five-day grace period.

Another PETA fun-fact. They financially sponsor people from groups who firebomb medical research facilities that use animals for research and to make drugs for diabetics under the motto "Animals are not ours to exploit"...yet 2 of the VPs from PETA are diabetic and take insulin.

My daughter volunteers with a real animal rescue group and she despises PETA.

FixNation and Alley Cat Allies are two organizations who support Trap-Neuter-Return for feral cats. This is compassion in action. I have never understood PETA.

That is what SaferCat in NH does.
This spring we had a cat show up at our place, there was still snow on the ground. We tried to catch her but she was really wild. So we fed her outside. Then a couple weeks later we discovered she had, had a kitten, just one, in the manager of our stock trailer. It was just a couple of weeks old. We put the food in there. When the kitten got to be six or seven weeks old we captured it in a live trap and brought it in the house. Then we captured mama and took her to be spayed. The ASPCA where we live has a program that pays for the surgery for catch and release ferals but it doesn't pay for the drugs or vaccinations. Our vet is part of another program that pays for the surgery and the drugs for the surgery. So it cost us only $60 for a rabies vaccination, and to have her treated for fleas (she was covered in them). We kept her for 10 days, sadly in a cage, and released her on another farm where they have lots of mice around the barns. Our niece took the kitten and added her to her klan of now six. They are all indoor cats.

I do like your story and agree the general stupid that is PETA. However:

It's spayed.
To be fair if you take a spade to them it'll kinda have the same effect.

Of course it'll also have the same effect as if you'd handed them over to PETA.

I am not a fan of PETA. Glad to see them fined.

I mean really, what is their goal? The extinction of domestic animals? That seems a logical conclusion. And notably I don't see PETA warning people not to use palm oil, which is causing the rapid loss of habitat for orangutans, which might go extinct if this isn't stopped.
