The US should be ashamed of itself. The government shutdown absolutely could hamper growth, with repurcussions for the global economy. Just as things were beginning to look up...

Hey, don't blame us, cousin; we don't like it any better than you do. It's the idiot politicians we have in Washington that are the source of the problem.

Don't confuse the American people with the American government. They ain't the same thing.

President Barack Obama is preparing to invoke the powers given to him under 50 USC Chapter 13 to hold that various American States are now in a “state of insurrection” thus allowing him to invoke the National Emergencies Act

Laughable. Utterly laughable.

We've been hearing this for years.

First, Obama was going to take away all your weapons (he never did - by contrast Bush did in New Orleans and the right wingers blamed everybody else except for him).

Obama was going to impose nationwide martial law. Never did.

Obama was going to force people into FEMA shelters. Never did.

Obama was going to suspend the Constitution. Never did.

Obama was going to impose socialism. Never did - in fact, corporate profits are at their HIGHEST since the year 1900.

Such rants are so incredibly laughable that it is mind boggling how anyone would believe them!

The Republicans shut it down as acknowledged by the vast majority of Americans and even by Republicans themselves such as McCain and Peter King.

A point was made on another thread so I want to use it to correct my post above - those who say Republicans are at fault do not reach the "majority" number any longer. This because the news media are so hostile to Obama while being under the influence of the right wing. But the plurality does agree that Republicans are principally at fault for the shut down.

He posted the link but I'm sure if it's not mainstream media it won't be good enough for anyone here.

Well the current top story at that link:

A new report circulating in the Kremlin today prepared by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) claims that the unarmed 34-year-old woman named Miriam Carey who was gunned down last Thursday (3 October) in Washington D.C. was, in fact, “deliberately targeted” by an elite hit-squad under orders to assassinate what Russian intelligence officials say was the mother of President Barack Obama’s “love child.

The fact that they're willing to repeat information from the Russian successor to the KGB without vetting from another original source or even qualification of the reliability of the sole source is ample reason to discount them.

In fact, I'd tend to believe that if this story actually was released by the GRU, it's purely intended as disinformation for the gullible, because--no more than the CIA--the GRU would not release information that confirmed their information sources, analytical methods, and decryption capabilities...especially not on bedroom gossip.

Well, compromise is a two-way street. Simply saying: "It's the republicans' fault!" is missing the fact that the democrats don't want to compromise

Now there you go again, being impartial and balanced.

How can you stir up partisan hatred with an attitude like that???

The source of this lunatic story on the beyond-the-lunatic-fringe Total Collapse website is "Sorcha Faal," whose reporting "is of such quality that even other conspiracy nutters don't think much of it. There is a high chance that 'Sorcha Faal is actually David Booth, the owner/operator of the website [WhatDoesItMean.com], or someone collaborating with him." (Quotation from RationalWiki.)

The lead paragraph to Sorcha Faal's story is, "A highly troubling 'urgent bulletin' issued earlier today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFa) states that it has received information from the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) warning to expect a 'radical change' in the government of the United States, possibly within the next fortnight, based on information they have received from 'highly placed' sources within the Pentagon." So "Sorcha Faal" has received information from the RUSSIAN Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the RUSSIAN Main Intelligence Directorate has received this startling information from highly placed sources at the Pentagon. Yeah, that sounds credible.

There is nothing on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website about this, nor is there any evidence that the Ministry issues "urgent bulletins" about anything, let alone highly sensitive information of this nature. The only other "urgent bulletin" story I could find was by -- you guessed it -- Sorcha Faal. That one had Russian officials telling everyone to "GET ALL OF YOUR MONEY OUT OF WESTERN BANKS NOW!!!" because they are collapsing next week -- standard nut-case fare.

Thanks for posting this, Paxton25. It is always beneficial for those of us who still have our wits about us and still live in the real world to be reminded that there are those around us who don't. Plus, your post made me laugh out loud, and that's always appreciated. You are, of course, also a Young Earth Creationist, or am I mistaken?

Guys stop belittling his post, it's all true, it is NOT a lunatic story. I was actually tapped by the president to oversee the subjugation of several states. The president liked the work I did for my PhD, so me and 5 others were chosen to control spheres of influence in the continental States. We're splitting it up 8 states per regional headmaster; Alaska will be firebombed to eliminate its population; Hawaii will be the president's base, so we're leaving that all to him.

Backtrolling appreciated :D
Though you'd best be careful. Some people (not necessarily anyone here) are stupid enough to think you were telling the truth.

Can we get a link from a website that wasn't created just to try to sell a paranoid agenda? Obama doesn't have the political power to survive anything close to what this article says he will. The media has stepped back from him, they aren't giving him the total free pass he had when he started.

There is drastic change coming, but it will be non-violent.

J. Ventura is calling for a voting rebellion. "Vote for anyone other then a Rep or Dem."

I believe the American people will wake up soon, and take back the government from the two parties that seek only to control government, not make the country better.

Before taking up the sword, strike the ballot for change. Ie get your lazy self up and vote. Get involved. Ignore the government and they will run over you.

J. Ventura is calling for a voting rebellion. "Vote for anyone other then a Rep or Dem."

But how will we accomplish that, Bill? They have the election process tied up so tight that 89% of the time, third-party or independent candidates can't even get on the ballot.

The only way I can think of for that to even begin to work is if a third-party or independent candidate can get enough media exposure to launch a write-in campaign---"If you're sick of the same old, same old, then write my name on your ballot come election day!"

The problem then becomes whether the various districts will accept write-in ballots. The Reps and Dems are sure to pass laws before election day outlawing write-in votes, and in states that allow them, who's to say but what the ballot officials will refuse to count ballots with write-in votes? They may simply rule that if one of the two major party candidates is not chosen, then it's a "spoiled ballot", and reject it.

I respect Jesse Ventura for being willing to think and act outside of the box, but I'm not sure if I see the way for a non-Rep/Dem candidate to garner enough votes to be a threat to the established old boy system in Washington.

It will of course be grass roots.
Many states have more favorable Independant candidates then the feds.
The more indi's we get in, the more the laws can be changed.

I agree, the system is heavily weighed towards either/or, not three or more. The two parties both worked hard to make it that way.
I also think this will happen more and more with the way our two parties aren't working together.
Of course, with more then two parties, the amount of people electing a person to office could be in the neighborhood of 15% of registered voters.
Typical election-50% of voters vote. Meaning the person is elected by around 25% of voters. So if you get three or more, the majority of three candidates could be 17%. (17%,16%,16%)

The communist party is all but dead in this country so your theory goes out the window on that one. You'll have to come up with a better excuse then what you've provided.

Isn't socialism along the line of communism? To me they r all the same, BAD, and they're not supposed to be here.

Socialism is very much alive in this country, and unfortunately growing!

From what I've seen, everything is changing....

Bolding mine

Perhaps California is different, But I do not recall a presidential election without SEVERAL other choices. At least "Peace and Freedom" and "Libertarian" every time for the last 20 years and usually a couple more.
