Pastor unjustly imprisoned on blasphemy charge

Pakistan's blasphemy laws carry a mandatory death sentence for anyone who insults Islam, although the sentence has never been carried out. Critics say the fact that minorities figure so prominently in the cases shows how the laws are unfairly applied. Often the laws are used to settle personal scores and have little or nothing to do with religion.

It is widely acknowledged that the mere accusation of blasphemy is enough to make someone a target for hardliners, as is defending those accused of blasphemy or calling for the laws to be reformed. As a result many of those accused have ended up languishing in a prison cell for years for something that they are simply not guilty of.

Zafar Bhatti has been imprisoned since 2012 allegedly for sending blasphemous text messages, a charge he denies. The mobile phone in question was not even registered to his name!

UPDATE
Please continue praying for our Iranian brother in Christ, Ebrahim Firouzi. He has been refusing food in protest over the way the Iranian legal system is treating him and his fellow Christians, especially those with a Muslim background. His physical condition is said to be deteriorating.

Ebrahim was arrested in Tehran in August 2013. He was due for release in January 2015 after serving 10 months for ‘propaganda against the regime, insulting Islamic sacraments and acting against national security’. However, the Iranian authorities then brought additional charges of ‘acting against national security, gathering, and collusion,’ sentencing him to a further five years’ imprisonment. Ebrahim is serving his sentence in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj.

Thank you for posting these, friend. I pray you won't stop. :prayer:
It is great to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters. Stay strong!

"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for their's is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
Matthew 5:10-11
