I remember him. What an INCREDIBLE kid. He became a quadriplegic due to the hit he took, but then he appeared on tv shortly after that smiling (from his hospital bed, I believe), consoling the kid who hit him (or kids actually, because if memory serves, he received 2 hits from behind at the same time), telling them not to feel bad about what happened to him, and expressing his continuing love for the sport of hockey.
I am
VERY happy for him that he got this job
I also believe his hit and the injury that he sustained was part of the reason that the game changed so much and so quickly back then, from the NHL down to Pee-Wee Youth Hockey (which is the age where checking begins to be allowed in youth hockey, 11-12 yr olds). There is no more looking the other way or just saying that these bad hits are some sort of necessary part of the sport anymore, not where head hits and checks from behind are concerned.
