  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are the odds these will be reported as breathlessly as Sarah's misspellings?

Sarah Palin emails: Enemies sent a series of death threats - Telegraph

The release of 24,000 pages of Sarah Palin's emails shows that she received a barrage of abusive emails including death threats in the run up to the 2008 presidential race.

One message sent by someone in Juneau, Alaska on Sept 17, 2008 said the governor should be "shot from one of the planes that shoot the very wolves that you ordered."

Five days earlier an email landed in her in-box saying she "must be killed."

It said: "She doesn't belong to the NRA to support the right of each citizen to have weapons in an aim of self-defence, but just to support the right of every southern white citizen to shoot all non-white people legally! Sarah Palin MUST BE KILLED!"

Another emailed death threat in the same month, while Mrs Palin was on the campaign trail as John McCain's vice-presidential running mate, came from Antwerp, Belgium.

It said Mrs Palin should be shot and that "only on that moment justice will be accomplished."

What is your point? Normal people understand that threats like these wrong, and I bet the police were informed. Do you believe that Palin is the only politician to receive these types of emails?

Normal people also understand that politicians can mis-speak ocassionally, without making it an opportunity to smear someone. We aren't talking about normal people here, we're talking about liberals with a pathological obsession.

In other words, you have no valid point to make except for the chance to call liberals pathologically obsessed. Thanks for clearing it up.

Lucky for hm then, because otherwise the NYT and WaPo would certainly be recruiting for a "Get Obama" team.

Lucky for him? What do you expect to find in his emails? If its wrong for them to go through Palin's emails, then by extension, if youre not being partisan, it would be wrong to go through Obama's, yes?

No it isn't.

For people who live in the reality based community it most certainly is.

Good point. I remember the right letting Obama's "57-states" comment slide as just him misspeaking.

To be fair, the Palin-mania is rather bipartisan. There is the Republican contingent that holds her up as the clear best candidate (who never gaffes and is a mastermind and manipulating the media) and the Democrat contingent who will never rest until she is universally loathed as a clueless idiot. Both sides feed the other.

True enough -- If Palin throws her hat into the presidental ring (and she won't), then she'll be worth discussing.

As a politician/reality tv star, she's yesterday's news. Let's wait for her to do something that matters before treating her like a celebrity.

This is a bit of a non sequitor since Ton was referencing the death threats. Unfortunately all politicians - and all public figures - get death threats and allusions to violence all the time. Normal people realize these are wrong and for whatever reason you dislike a public person, you should not send death threats or allusions to violence.

24,000 pages of Palin e-mails to go through. This is a liberals dream come true. Just think of all the misspellings, the run-on sentences and dangling participles that will bring endless hours of laughter to those arrogant media elites. There seems to be some psychological need on the left to miss no opportunity to cast her in a bad light. It is almost as if they live second hand; that their intelligence is not based upon how smart they are, but how smart they seem in comparison to her.
This is just projection and paranoia on your part.

The dumber they make her look, the smarter they think they seem. The trouble is, it doesnt work that way. Just as you dont measure a mans toughness by his ability to take candy from a baby, you dont measure a mans intellect by his ability to outsmart the dumbest guy in the room. The left has made Palin an intellectual punching bag that a yawn could topple over. They take turns swinging away and congratulate themselves on their boxing prowess. Color me unimpressed.
Do you really think they paid all that money for all those emails just to have a punching bag? For all you know, the emails could cast her in a very favorable light. For all you know, she may have fought valiantly against corruption which may be documented in these emails.

Perhaps. And perhaps not.

Come on, aisy, you know why they wanted those e-mails. It turns out there was no bombshells in there, but that doesnt mean they werent looking for one.

I am still waiting patiently for the article or opinion peice that tells the truth about how a very effective and concerned Governor did a great job.

It will come.

I distinctly remember how a TEA Party member was [responcible] for an elected officials brother's grill would not light because of a "cut GAS LINE" that went into the house even though it was a grill that used a prophane [sp] tank.

Good Times... Eh, Bro?

Why? Competency doesn't sell papers; scandal does.

How would you know this Nathan?

Have you seen this before?

As a matter of fact, Herbie, yes -- the media will always pounce all over themselves at the first scent of a political scandal.

Consider the following:

enan_0001_0002_0_img0121.jpg

Jefferson,

muckrake355x430.gif

Roosevelt,

ffec3857643798897b6922d2a0ea4dac.jpg

Hamilton, (Sorry, no cute photos of his sex scandal)

... all raked over the coals by the media of the time. And why? Becuase shock sells. Always has, always will.
