Overcoming depression

Even great men and women of God can become depressed at times. Take God's prophet Elijah,for example. He was a man of God who looked to Him and did many exploits,but on one occasion he got very depressed and took his focus off God (1Kings 19:1-23) He got tired and discouraged in the work of the Lord and focused on his problems,rather than the problem solver,God. He felt like giving up and even taking his own life,but God had other plans and as he sat despondently under a tree,God sent an angel to him,who touched him and told him to get up and eat,sleep and chill out. We also need to do that at times!

Please note there is depression and there is depression.
How do you tell the difference between them?
A is depressed and wants to give up his work.
B is depressed and hasn't left his bed room fot three days.
How would you councel them?



A you talk or rather listen to him, problems can be dealt with, encouragement given and if needed a break aranged.
B needs medical help and medication. By all means pray for and with, but never ever even hint that they don't have to see a doctor or take their medication.
Someone with the above level of depression could walk out the house and jump under a lorry.

Depression ranges from mild to extreme. It is importent to seek help if it persists for more than a few weeks. Medication may be needed,but we must keep looking to God.

As nhs appointments can take several weeks to get, I'd recomend seeking help sooner rather than later.

Ring. NHS doctor's surgery on the day for the appointment,who will get the nurse to ring back. If this fails ring 111 for appointment at hospital. Stress the urgency of need for help
