Business Week had an article about how all the European countries are ending their austerity programs because they caused such low economic growth.

It's estimated that the U.S.'s halving the sequester cuts will increase our own economic growth from 1.7% this year to 2.8% next year.

I know it sounds appealing when your representatives talk "budget cuts," especially if they don't affect you, but if they stifle economic growth then less revenue will be collected and we lose even more.

So yes, by all means let's let Congress leave military salaries and retirements intact--they deserve our support.

But no more preaching, I promise...just want to let the doubters know that we may prosper more if we don't cut military salaries and pensions.

Come on Fantine, we both know a lot could be cut in the budget without making the poor veterans pay. We could cut the free Obama phones program. We could actually cut Congress salaries for every year that the budget isn't balanced. And how about all the money wasted on the boondoggles like Solyndra. And how about the IRS conventions where they even made those Star Trek parody videos or those that feature line dancing. That cost us plenty. Or how about all the fuel wasted by our politicians going to this place or that when a conference call would do (and probably be better cause it would remove our lawmakers from the lobbyists by making our representatives stay home with their constituents.) And all that money wasted on that "Cash for Clunkers" program which made it so a poor family couldn't get a nice, working car. Or even all that money wasted on the Obamacare website when two geeks in their parent's garage could probably do a better job in less time! And don't forget that we seem to be bound and determined to give billions of foreign aid to our enemies.

There's a lot of real "fat" that could be trimmed in our national budget without making the veterans pay for it (or balancing it on the backs of our future generation.)
