But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, and the Lord has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?”

The above passage and the following line of verse 22 is one of my favorite parts of the Bible. Here we had someone in a difficult situation, going thru tremendous trial, even to the point where they would rename themselves “bitter” in their circumstances. But if you keep reading to verse 22 in the text, the Holy Spirit chose to inspire the writer of Ruth to still write her name as Naomi despite what she had called herself.

I believe some Christians today are allowing the world and their temporary environments to dictate who their identity is. Some may even be so down in the dumps that, like Naomi, they’ve given themselves new names. But don’t you know that what God has called you will forever be yours in Jesus Christ!? You are more than a conqueror in God. You are are an overcomer by the blood of Jesus and the Word of your testimony. You are loved! Your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. Rejoice, because nothing will ever separate you from that love of God in our Lord. Amen.

The grace of God gives us strength in that, while we can be sorrowful, we can also rejoice (2 Corinthians 6:10). Romans 8:18 also states, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." What good news this is! Even the worst of our sufferings are like the stars in the night sky, that when the sun rises, fade and dissipate into obscurity!

Christ said I will never leave you nor forsake, Paul wrote that His grace is sufficient for me, what can separate us from the love of God?, and many, many more. Some referenced by the OP. If we are in Christ then Christ is in us. What more can we need? Never let circumstances get you down. God is not concerned about circumstances , they mean absolutely nothing to Him. He can dismiss them with a thought, calm the storm with a word. Circumstances have zero impact on God. He is the creator of all we see, all we cannot see and it was all created from Him, from His word. There is nothing seen or unseen which God is not above. He who created all things can make His will come to pass. No matter what. Plus for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Death has no meaning for the child of God as we simply pass from life to life. We pass from a life of shadow to a life in the presence and light of God. So do not be afraid. O death where is thy victory? Death has no victory over the child of God. Even when it comes to the end times, and I am not saying this is the end time, the word to His children is lift up your head, your redemption draws close. Do not fear.
