To soften hard brown sugar, place an open bag of sugar in the microwave with a cup of water next to it. Microwave on high (100%) for 2-3 minutes. If your microwave doesn't have a carousel, turn the bag after each minute. NOTE: This works great, but isn't a permanent fix. Any unused sugar will dry up again. However, the process can be repeated each time you need sugar.
Place about 1/2 lb. of hardened brown sugar in microwave safe bowl. Cover sugar with two pieces of wet paper towels. Tightly cover bowl with plastic wrap. Heat in microwave at HIGH for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Divide sugar with fork (sugar will be hot); stir. Use immediately. NOTE: Microwave ovens vary in power; cooking time may need adjustment.

if you don't need it immediately, i believe you can put the sugar in a bowl and over it witth a damp paper towel and let it sit overnight.
ther might be directions on the box

I do not have a microwave. We have had them in the past, but I do not like them and refused to buy a new one when the last one broke down.

This sounds like a good solution if it works.

Throw it out and buy a new bag! LOL!

Bwahahahhahahaah. :D

That sounds like something my dad would do.

I personally just put hard brown sugar into a bigger bag and beat the living daylights out of it. It's a great way to work out some frustration, and get my mother angry.

Last time I tried that, my hubbie thought I was trying to overkill a black widow spider

I'd pop the brown sugar in a food processor. But, then you might end up with brown icing sugar, depending on the blade you use.^_^

Most likely I would end up with sugar dust all over the place when I opened the container. :D

Baking hits for Christmas

You hit it until it breaks.:sorry:

:D I thought at first that I had another typo in one of my thread titles. :)

Yah, you hit it until it dents or breaks the counter.
Those sugar rocks are hard like cement.
