Consciously to reject the Church's teaching in order to follow one's own passions is extremely dangerous spiritually.

Right, except for the fact that homosexuality is not a passion and even if it was, I'm not gay. It's not about function, it's about context. Love knows no boundaries and sex isn't just for procreation.

If I ever get married, I'll aspire to be the best husband I can be. I'll love my spouse as selflessly as I can. I'll cook if I have to, I'll move if I have to, I might even be willing to take her last name if she really wants me too. We'll meet for lunch, do things together, go places. Well be a cute little family of two.

I didn't say you were gay. I was referring to your position on marriage without kids.

However, homosexuality is most certainly a passion and a distortion of human nature as originally created. To endorse homosexual intercourse is to stand outside of the teachings of the Church, as is promoting the idea of a deliberately childless marriage.

Grace and peace,
John

um...what about people that have kids for selfish reasons? Besides, how selfish can a couple afford to be if they are going to make their marriage work? Some people just don't want kids. Nothing selfish about that desire in and of itself. Besides, unless you're a saint, chances are your selfish in some way too.
Look Commando,

You can argue all you want about this or that and you make very compelling cases from a purely secular POV. You can keep bringing up new situations and examples of why one might not have kids.

But in the end, most of what you are saying goes against what the Church has always taught. You simply can't find a reputable Orthodox source that will say "If you don't want to have kids for whatever reason, that's fine and completely Orthodox".

So, that's fine that you disagree with US. But realize that your views are not inline with the Church's throughout all history.

I am not trying to be personal or judgmental with you. I am only pointing out an imperical fact. Your view is not all-in-all Orthodox (even taking into account the more "progressive" views that authors such as Archbishop KALLISTOS seem to be espousing).

I know I don't want any kids. <please note lack of marriage icon> ;) And if I end up with a kid any time soon I'm going to be very, VERY surprised. :)
I still haven't figured out how it happens... The stork just keeps leaving them on my doorstep!

You know what? For the longest time I NEVER WANTED CHILDREN! I felt this way from teenage years until 3 years ago. Hubby and I have been married 6 years now. When we were first married we knew what everything we were going thru, was not the right time for children (we were not Orthodox then either). Hubby always wanted children..........he loves kids and he is so good with them. I.......on the other hand..........kept saying NO NO NO NO! Well, about 3 years ago, while hubby was doing his tour in Korea, one day I was over come with the desire to have a baby! What timing huh?! Ever since then we have tried to have a baby..........no such luck! I know one day God will bless us with a child or two or more, either our own or by adoption!

So.............what I'm saying is............NEVER SAY NEVER!!! I did and now look! I don't know how old you are either, but if you are young, this could be part of your feelings of saying you never want children!

You totally sound like me. Neither of us wanted kids when we married eight years ago. Now however... I don't talk about it much, but we'd be very pleased if it were to happen.

We wanted kids from the start ... i pray that you both have children :) We are blessed even with our only daughter. She is such a blessing... God knows when there is the right time. And BTW adoption is a wonderful option, do not wait too long to adopt though because there are age restrictions...

Oh great...........age restrictions? By the time hubby and I can afford to adopt, we will most likely be too old for it.

Hey BMW there is always the Orthodox monastery in Guatemala... do not fret.. I do not think they have age restrictions... Here:

Thanks! We just long to have a child NOW! It is so discouraging when many around us are pregnant or have already several children. It's saddening at times. We are even going to see fertility specialist when hubby gets back from deployment to make sure there isn't a problem with either of us. If so, then we look at adoption more heavily. If not, well........then God will bless us in due time! ;) The thing about adoption is that it can be so outrageously expensive!!!!

Well, lots of my classmates...(mostly GOA priests...lol) have adopted from that monastery... I really do not think that except the paper work they had to "pay" maybe a donation to the Monastery. I had my hubby going to a specialist too... He was not too happy about it. Sometimes the reason is as simple as stress...

Oh now that I remembered you guys had to visit this church when you went to NY... well maybe you could visit again....

There is a monastery in Greece called Irene the Chrysovalantou that is said to be miraculous for pregnancy... There is a sacred apple that is the symbol of that saint that is known that if taken by prayer and fasting is miraculous... I know many friends of mine got pregnant because of St. Irene... I got pregnant too for the second time .... but unfortuanately lost it... (things happen like that... thought was nont meant to happen)...

this is the link of the Church in NY you can read her story.

http://www.stirene.org/st_irene/stirene_index.html

I think you guys should look into it. We benefit much from our pilgramage to the monastery but you can also visit the church.
