  1. Welcome to Christian Forums, a forum to discuss Christianity in a friendly surrounding.

Your voice is missing! You will need to register to be able to join in fellowship with Christians all over the world.

We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

    Guys - come on now

Yes - TAW is pretty tolerant to non-Orthodox - that's why I love you all and it's why TAW is my home.

Can I humbly suggest that everyone takes a wee breather and then this gets back on topic without the nastiness ?

I've had to do a large clean-up of the thread for a few reasons:

    1. Gay Marriage cannot be debated here
    2. If you are not a member of TAW, you cannot debate here. You can fellowship or ask questions but not debate.
    3. There was some mild flaming.

If you see your post missing, it was either a violation or quoting a post that was.

I think the mods do go overboard sometimes

Why are there non Orthodox moderating an Orthodox board anyways?

Because no Orthodox have applied to be a mod in years.

Yeah that is annoying, why are the heterodox moderating a Orthodox forum? It gets pretty crazy on TAW at times, yet we do a good job policing ourselves.

If you quote a post that is a rule violation and is deleted, your quoting post will be deleted as well.

On the other hand, why not? They're mostly ensuring guidelines about civil discourse are adhered to.

It's either we hetrodox, or nobody. Unless any orthodox want to volunteer to help out at CF. In which case, please start a thread here.

Gurney, you are a good man, and I completely understand where you are coming from.

I hardly talk to my openly gay brother anymore. Mainly because I feel so much anger towards him for harming himself over and over again. I felt like screaming when he received the Eucharist at my grandmother's funeral! :(

I need to work on my compassion towards LGBT folk- despite being attracted to men myself. I truly have no respect for the gay community.

I will add though I did offer my prayers for the victims and their families. May God have mercy on me, the chief of sinners :rcsignofcross:

So that's what you did ...

I wondered where Light of the East's quote came from on that board.

As far as having Orthodox moderate the forum .... the problem is with a conflict of interest in being both a poster and a moderator.

Being an ambassador, I can do a few things - but I'd rather not. In order to keep things as they should be, I'd have to not post in threads, and the conversation is more important to me than running things (MUCH more). The last time I checked, nearly every community forum had someone not of their group doing the moderating. Having a Catholic moderator is probably the best we can hope for? It could be really frustrating to have someone whose beliefs are nearly polar opposite in every way.

We do generally do a really good job of moderating ourselves here though. If anything, I know we tend to tolerate posts by outsiders that are really against the rules.

One middle aged woman who had beaten cancer twice was there with her son when she was killed. Some of the gays there may have been cruising, but certainly not all. Sleaziness isn't a part of every homosexual's lifestyle. A gay nightclub is more than that. It's a safe space, a place where we can feel entirely comfortable being ourselves without fear of repercussions, a place to just dance and have a good time, and that space was attacked and many people were killed. And if you can't understand that a bar or a club can be a sanctuary, you've probably never been afraid to hold someone's hand in public.

I would also add that not once in this thread did I see "homophobia" mentioned, though that had a lot to do with this tragic incident. I've noticed that in general many folks are very reluctant to admit that homophobia was a factor because that means they share a trait with someone who killed 50 people.

That's all I really have to say on this, other than the much need prayer of, "Lord, have mercy!" <3

Also you might notice not once in this thread did any one say there were afraid of homosexuals. It is the kooky left that perpetrates that myth of homophobia (fear of homosexuals) to make those who believe in Christ and His Gospel look like villains because the liberals hate truth

I am glad I am not the only one, though I am not appalled at myself. I didn't know the magnitude of the islamic terrorist attack, I just thought some people got shot just like 9/11 I thought a small plane hit at first.

I don't think it's necessary or accurate to compare Christians to a murderous terrorist. That being said, I'm sorry that you have had to go to a bar or a club just to feel safe, and I'm sorry if Christians contributed to that.

49 people were shot and killed, and nobody had time to mourn or contemplate their feelings, because literally within an hour the situation became another political spat between ideological extremes. Society is collapsing around the world, I might sound like a wacko heterodox street preacher here, but I think it is certainly possible that the end times are drawing near.

As much as I can't take my grandma seriously when she brings that subject up, I often wonder if she's right. But the church has been through worse.

To be clear, you're saying then that some of us in here might have something in common with the gunman?

I know of no homophobes in this forum. I don't fear any man. I fear, however, that America, in the name of equality and hating bullying and wanting inclusivity will encourage a degenerate and disgusting, ungodly, sinful, unnatural and dangerous lifestyle that will bring countless souls to Gehenna's gates. LGBT lifestyles are soul-destroying abominations.

I dated a girl in college of a different race and was verbally assaulted by racists at the coast. My wife is of a different race. I've had black friends and was ripped to shreds for being with them and I went to battle on my friends' behalf....I know what it means to be afraid to befriend or date someone e different. I dont need to hide in a bar to seek solace. My wife and I still get occasional looks. It's fine. I'm not doing anything sinful so I have a clear conscience.

I do not condone or laud the gunman's actions. Far from it. I hate to see ANY person gunned down. I pray for the conversion of people grappling with same-sex attraction. Gunning people down in cold blood goes not only against Orthodox values, it goes against my own private values about life and death. I believe in second chances and hope. I hope for each one of these folks who label themselves with acronyms LGBTQ and a hundred other descriptors to change their hearts and fight the good fight. There are celibate people who battle same-sex attraction who will enter into higher mansions of heaven than I should I be blessed enough to find heaven through God's grace. These folks will find glories above me to be sure for this is a struggle like no other. I pray for the lost souls of this nightmare.

And on another note I loathe and lament these situations because it adds fuel to the fire of gun control advocates and liberal socialists with whom I passionately disagree on this topic.
