The leadership of the Order of Malta denied the legality of a Vatican investigation into the forces resignation of the group's gormer grand chancellor, but the commission established by Pope Francis says "its completely legitimate and authorized" to investigate the matter and inform the pope.

I'd like Muller to tell them, 'No back-chat ! I want no lip from you. Just do what you're told. Those kinds of lay outfits get 'too big for their boots' very quickly, and that one has been on the go for hundeds of years. It's never good when rich Catholics are encouraged to dress up and pose as historical grandees of one stamp or another.

Dumb insolence (as Queens Regulations put it - or, even, as my brother, a naval-rating, told me it was designated, 'silent contempt', i.e towards an officer) would have been better than giving voice to such 'woulda coulda shoulda', would-be legal nonsense. Reduce them to the ranks - without passing Go.

Why on earth do they have connectons with the Freemasons ? See how quickly the Order would fold and lose its cachet, if it seceded from the Catholic Church, voluntarily or involuntarily.

    Hi Michie,

I'm very puzzled by Mr Allan's 'take on' the matter. In any pecking order, what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. What's more the closer in the pecking order, the greater the combative self-assertion of the superior. But as for the spiritual order, it's no contest, anyway.
