  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone
I have a few questions which I would like some advise on :)
Ok so my first question is for girls (not limited to of course). Maybe it's just me but it seems like teenage girl's clothing has gotten way more reveling over the past few years. Obviously some things people wear are way too skimpy being really suggestive but what about more typical outfitts that are somewhat on the revealing side? I mean nothing perverted but more like for example a dress that ends a few inches above the knee or a bikkini to the beach, etc. Do you feel it's wrong to dress like that or not really a big deal?
My next question is about drinking (under the legal age). My closest friend will drink on certain occasions and I've been somewhat tempted to try it. I was wondering what your opinion is on drinking here and there, not in any dangerous amounts?
Ok and my last question is about being a vegetarian. My family raises farm animals for food mainly for meat so it's something I've always wondered about. I've always loved animals and used to be a vegetarian but stopped a few years ago. I've heard different opinions, some saying to be vegetarian is a form of blaspheme because it goes against God's design of the way the world works (i wouldn't think this would apply to ppl who don't eat meat for health reasons though). I've also heard some claim it's better to be vegetarian because that's how man was in the garden of Eden before sin was released. So what do you think about eating animals, is it right or wrong?
Thanks for answer my questions, I really appreciate it!

I think is it horrible that girls today dress in the manner that they do. What ever happened to the time where if a man saw a woman's ankle, he was to marry her?
Don't even get me started on the way guys are acting today. More women would be ladies if more men were gentlemen.
As for underage drinking, that is bad too. We are to abide by the law of the land on these things.

Really? Being a vegetarian is blasphemy? Are you kidding me?

Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. (Romans 14:1-4 NASB)

I've considered being a vegetarian myself. As long as you don't tell others that it is wrong to eat meat.

First question: Yes, teenage girl's clothing has gotten a lot more revealing. I find it a sad thing that they can sometimes see their body as nothing more than an object to help them bed men. As for clothing which isn't as revealing, I think wearing it isn't a good thing. I think it's the "wrong kind" of beauty, especially for someone young.

Second question: Drinking is a tricky issue. In my country, one can drink in the home from the age of 5, and my church has proper wine at Communion. I think that it's wrong if it's against the law (for example, a 16-year-old drinking at a pub without an adult), but otherwise in moderation there isn't any reason for it to be bad. It's a fine line though, and there's a big risk that if you go drinking with friends, something won't go the way you'd planned it. It's very easy to get caught up in the moment, or even for someone to spike your drink. That's why I think drinking out of the home is a bad idea at any age, since if you just have a glass of wine with a family meal, nothing can really be bad.

Last question: I'm mostly vegetarian myself, as my brothers are and it's easier to not have to cook two dishes. I don't think there's anything right or wrong about eating meat. It's done in the Bible and all animals are declared clean and good to eat. I don't think anyone knows what was eaten in the Garden of Eden (assuming it exists/existed) – is there any evidence that Adam and Eve did not eat meat? God said that they could eat of any tree except the Tree of Knowledge, but he never said they could not eat other foods.

Question 1: Yes, a lot of girls these days are wearing a lot more provocative clothing. Of course being how society is today that really is no surprise. As for swimwear. That's tricky. I wouldn't call it totally wrong. Because let's face it, some guys would be attracted to a girl no matter what she is wearing.

Question 2: I would definitely see drinking under the legal age to be wrong. If you’re at the legal age that is a bit different. I personally have no plans to start drinking alcohol at any point. But I would strongly consider the risks of drinking before you try it. Even the smallest amount of alcohol will affect you to some degree. It is very risky to try it. Just keep that in mind.

Question 3: Not sure who told you eating meat was a form of blasphemy but I can assure you it is not. Unless eating meat is a "stumbling block" for you, there is nothing wrong with eating meat. I myself am mostly a vegetarian but I do eat meat from time to time mostly fish. In fact, even Jesus ate fish. At least, I'm pretty sure he did.

Question1: I think girls' clothing has become much more revealing recently. I wear things that go above my knees or with lower necklines, but my favorite quote about modesty "If you ain't sellin', don't advertise." I dont wear anything short to school though, becasue i think that it is too distracting.
Question 2: I feel drinking age limits are there for a reason and I have to desire to put substances into my body that could hurt me later in life.
question 3: I think vegetarianism is completely on an individual basis and it is not right or wrong. I personally love meat, but i try not to support organizations that use cruel methods to obtain it, but i have nothing against vegetarians or vegans for that matter.

Nothing much to add to 1 and 3. Everything I was going to say has been said. However, I do have an anwser to number 2.

I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong but the bible only warns about drunkeness, not about actually drinking nor does it address whether or not there is an age limit. However, God has told us to obey the authority he has put in place over us and if that authority says 21, then 21 it is.
