Thursday 17th August - Central Asia

The safe houses we are operating in various countries are often in use. Please pray for believers who are forced to find a temporary hiding place. They have often experienced emotional and/or physical trauma and do not know what their future holds. Pray for those who minister to them - for gentleness, patience and wisdom. On a practical level, pray for more safe houses, safety and security, mobile phones and furniture.

Monday 21st August - Iraq

Please continue to pray for Layla Ishmael. Our co-workers have not been able to confirm whether she and her children are still Muslims. Pray that the witness of her murdered husband, and the love shown to her by the Church, will soften her heart. Do pray also for the salvation of their children - we know that Zewar used the Children's Bible to teach them.

Tuesday 22nd August - Iraq

Pray for safety for the people of Iraq as kidnappings, car-bombs and murders continue unabate. And pray especially for our Christian brothers and sisters. They report that the Churches have been protected by God throughout the last few months but some people still hesitate to attend the weekly services. Pray too for the safe arrival of Scriptures and Christian literature into the country; the roads are dangerous.

Wednesday 23rd August - Saudi Arabia

Please remember in prayer the arrested Mekbeb Telahun and Masai Wendewsen, and Eritreans Fekre Gebremedhin and Dawit Uqbay. As Frontline (the Open Doors monthly news article booklet) went to press, we had no information on how they were being treated or whether they we undergoing interrogation. Three of the men are married, Masai is single. Please pray that they and their families will know God's presence and peace, and that He will use them for His glory.

Thursday 24th August - Afghanistan

It is only in the anonymity of the larger towns that Afghan Christians dare to meet in groups and those usually do not exceed 20 people. In villages, sometimes only two or three people risk meeting together. Privacy is not a popular concept in Afghan villages and people usually know everything that is going on. Please pray for safety and for discernment in who to trust, and for unity among believers.

Saturday 26th August - Mexico

As a few of the Acteal prisoners prepare to be realeased, it must be a source of hope to our Christian brothers who are still waiting for news on their latest appeal. Please pray for the truth in this complicated case to become clear and for their release. And do uphold their families as they struggle to manage without them.

Sunday 27th August - Eritrea

Five prisoners died of exposure while running away from a military camp in Asabe on 16th May. The men were part of a group of 15 escapees, who had been detained in metal shipping containers for the past two years, because of their faith. We do not known whether the remaining ten made it across the Djibouti border. Pray for their safety and for the Lord to comfort the families of the five who passed away.

Monday 28th August - Nigeria

Muslim extremists overwhelmed police officers providing refuge for a Christian woman in Izom, Niger state of 28th June and stoned and clubbed her to death for doing street evangelism. David Azabo of the Roman Catholic Church in Izom witnessed the killing, and said she had met a group of Muslim youths, shared the Gospel with them and gave them tracts. Pray for the woman's family and for those who killed her, that they will come to know God's love and forgiveness.

Thursday 31st August - Homefront

Please pray for the production of Frontline and other Open Doors publications - for wisdom in selecting stories and for the accessability of information. New staff have recently joined the communications team and another is due to start in September. Please pray that they will quickly settle in and use their gifts to serve the Persecuted Church.

Friday 1st September - Middle East

As the war between Israel and Hezbollah continues, Christians in Lebanon and Israel say, "Your prayers are very vital and much needed." One believer urged our prayers, "The 'headquarters' of Hezbollah is in Jordan and there are also Hezbollah factions in Syria. Please pray this war will not spread throughout the region in the attempt to eliminate this islamist group."

Saturday 2nd September - Middle East

One of the results of this war in the polarisation in the media, especially in Islamic reporting - being a state of war with Israel is seen as a war against the West. And as the West is seen as 'Christian', believers in the religion endure greater pressure. Local believers ask us to pray for relief and good open contacts with Muslim neighbours and leaders.
