i just started a thread with the positional statements from aust, uk and us

I've copied it into here as well to give us a second access point. Hope that's OK.

Positional Statements - weblinks

Hi all,

I noticed a few questions being asked about the Salvation Army's position on some issues, so i thought rather than mess it up by potentially giving the wrong information, I'd find them on the web.

Here is the positional statements from the Australian Southern Territory - http://sal.mpa.net.au/aboutus/positional/default.asp

Eastern Territory - http://www.salvos.org.au/SALVOS/NEW...ionshow&FFFF385 (pdf files from there)

United Kingdom - http://www2.salvationarmy.org.uk/uk...58?opendocument

United States - http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn...81?opendocument

Can I clarify something here, before I add anything? My understanding is that a 'positional statement' may very in wording, but won't vary in substance (or position) from territory to territory. Is that right?

If so, I'll go through the various statements for each issue, pick the one that I think is most comprehensive/readable, and link to one statement per issue.

If not, tell me quick! :D

How about adding a section for a representation of some good program site pages. After all with The Salvation Army the proof is in the people. For example, the Minnesota/North Dakota, USA services have a page at http://www.thesalarmy.com

I would like to enquire if anyone knows of the Army's position on stem cell research. I have searched the positional statements and it is not mentioned. Surely the Army must have a position on an issue as big as this.

For embryonic stem cell research, I assume you mean?

From the IVF 'Positional Guide':

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Embryo Research
The Salvation Army believes that respect for the sanctity of human life makes embryo research generally unacceptable. However, given that others who hold different views in this matter are likely to decide that some procedures are acceptable, this organisation would press for the following minimum guidelines:

a. embryos should not be formed specifically for the purposes of research,

b. any research on human embryos should be preceded by exhaustive research on animal embryos,

c. excess embryos not required for implantation or donation may be used for certain types of research. However, collection of material should not exceed the reasonable expectations of requirements of the couple concerned,

d. such research should be limited to that having a direct therapeutic benefit to the embryo concerned or to embryos in general, but research for non-therapeutic purposes, e.g. for the benefit of medicine in general, should not be permitted,

e. informed consent of the donors of both the ova and sperm must be obtained,

f. research into fertilisation, the early stages of embryonic development, embryonic wastage, and infertility, using experimental animals, should be actively encouraged and adequately funded.

I should know this, but i don't so I'm having to ask.

The shots at the bottom of the crest represent the truth's of the Gospel. What are the seven truths of the Gospel, and why 7?

Got asked the question and i said i would find out

Do you think that it might be these? This is what I was taught as being the foundational Truths of the Gospel message. Not sure if that's what you were talking about but I will ask around at Church on Sunday.
