The democrats are not that far behind the republicans. I think it likely the democrats are going to split into a moderate and a more progressive camp.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if within the next 20 years or so we enter into a new party system with three parties; a moderate party based in the suburbs, a progressive party centered in the cities and a conservative farmer's party. Those are the three sort of power blocks that exist currently anyway, if in a informal matter.

That would certainly make sense. Each of them with their own kooky fringe elements. :p

Extreme left?
On the European scale Obama en Biden would be right of the center and AOC moderate left.

A couple things

First...saying "by this other region's standards so&so would only be considered..." is basically a somewhat meaningless measurement with regards to domestic matters.

It's like saying "by Middle Eastern standards, Marco Rubio would be considered a Feminist and pro-LGBT."

By US standards, he's neither of those things, so where he would fall on some other region's spectrum is irrelevant.

Second, even with that said, I'd be interested in hearing the rationale for AOC only being "Moderate left" by European standards, in which country?, and which policy positions and metrics you're basing that on?.

Are you okay with the idea of a one party rule for the US? If so, state your reasoning. If not, state your reasoning.

Discuss....
I think it may be better to do away with political parties altogether. That way politicians will be elected on their merits and not the letter in front of their name.

No.

1) The premise of one-party rule is at odds with the Constitution.
2) To the extent that freedom would be retained with one-party rule, there would be enough disagreement within that party to make one-party rule essentially meaningless.

The Republican Theodore Roosevelt called himself a progressive. My how things change.

Both parties have had time periods of wanting to progress, and times when they wanted to conserve the status quo.

Just depends on the time period and particular political issue.

Yes, but in more recent political history, the word "Progressive" has not meant advancement in the mild and appealing sense of making some changes for the better. It has instead had a much more definite meaning, both to the people to adopt the word for themselves and to their opponents.

Really? Depends. Biden borrowed a lot of anti-trump republican votes to beat Donald, depending on who the republicans pick for 2024 don't be shocked that they win.

Agreed. The Democrats put up a loser in 2016, and really didn't change their strategy in 2020. If it weren't for the extreme unpopularity of Trump, Biden wouldn't have been elected.

The founders frowned upon having parties at all...but it happened anyways.

You mean like a system where only one party is constitutionally permissible?

Yes, our use of the language has changed. Almost no political term is currently used in the same way as it was used more than 100 years ago. Hack, I even remember when evangelical wasn't a political term.

Progressive still means “progressive”, what has changed is that the Republican Party has veered off WAAAY or the Right, so much so that they’ve abandoned tried & true Conservative Principles such as “States’ Rights”, (cf, Texas vs PA, WI, MI & GA)
