Ohio HB 366 -- Urgent Help Needed

Ohio HB 366 is in trouble. From the reports I've heard, there is really no one on the House Committe (the Infastructure, Homeland Security and Veteran Affairs Committee) that seems willing to work to push this bill forward. This bill is very much in danger of dying in committee.

Let's discourage Breed Specific Legislation!!

http://www.house.state.oh.us/jsps/Representatives.jsp What is the OHIO House Bill 366?

If passed, H.B. 366 will, among other things, remove pit bulls and pit bull types from the definition of vicious dog in the State of Ohio.

If you live in Ohio, contact these state representatives and tell them that you support this bill.
If you know someone who lives in one of these state representatives' areas, have them call and tell them they support the bill. They don't have to own a dog, call them anyway. We need to show the support for the bill.
Here's who to call, and the areas they represent:
Rep. Steve Reinhard -- Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky
Rep. Diana Fesssler -- Miami and Darke Counties (Bethel Township, Troy, Greenville, Piqua)
Rep. Jim Aslanides -- Coshocton, Zanesville
Rep. Courtney Eric Combs -- Hamilton
Rep. Lynn Wachtmann -- Napoleon, Van Wert, Antwerp, Kalida, Continental, Holgate
Rep. John J. White - Kettering (a Dayton suburb)
Rep. John Widowfield -- Cuyahoga Falls
Dem. Allan Sayre -- Dover, New Philadephia, Uhrichsville, Cadiz, Holloway, Morristown
Dem. John Domenick - Jefferson County (Smithfield, Steubenville era)
Dem. Eugene Miller - Cleveland
Dem. John Otterman - Akron
Dem. Peter Ujvagi -- Toledo

Dear Representative [NAME],
I am a resident of ________, OH and I support the Ohio Bill HB 366 that will remove pit bulls and pit bull types from the definition of vicious dog in the State of Ohio.

Only Responsible dog owners are punished when Breed Specific Legislation is introduced. Neither does Breed Specific Legislation discourage dog fighters or those who purposely train a dog to be aggressive. If they are discouraged, they will only move on to the next breed, such as Dobermans or Rottweilers. The breed banning would never end!

Nor is it reasonable to label any dog aggressive based solely on its breed. How a Pit Bull is raised is just as important and responsible, if not more, as genetics, for the temperament of the dog.

Breed bans and Breed Specific Legislation only punishes the breed and not the deed of dog fighting or dog biting. Nor does it make the public any safer from dog bites or attacks. Most dog bites are from those that are chained/tethered or those roaming free without a leash, irregardless of the breed. If you want a safer public, enforce leash laws and ban the chaining of dogs.

The breed as a whole should not be punished. Instead bad dog owners should be punished through tougher Animal Cruelty laws, enforced leash laws, and holding owners responsible for the actions of their dog. Bad dog owners should be prevented by not allowing criminals (those who have been convicted of animal abuse, child abuse, or any other violent crime, and drug abuse or dealing) to own dogs.
Breed bans have been proven ineffective in reducing the number of dog bites annually. Breed Specific Legislation will never work. People must be held accountable for their dogs behavior in order for the biting and attacks to stop.
Please support the Ohio Bill HB 366.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
