I'll get my feet wet with the proposal on this one. Remind me of the proper form?

It's a nice idea to want to consider all the technologies/sciences you speak of Star, but I believe that question would be answered as soon as we come up with a comparative era from which to work. Then, once each player has that base to work from, individuals can concern themselves with whatever sciences, technologies, advancements, etc. their own characters would know about. We just don't have the time or resources to micromanage like that. Quite frankly, Asha could care less about mathematics or physics (unless she's leaping over undead warlords :p ) and she's got her own handle on medicine and wildlife through her Pra Yer abilities. Long story short, let's give people some idea of how far the society has advanced, tell them not to go beyond it and let them concern themselves with the details about what their respective characters would or would not know.

Speaking for myself, I'd welcome any and all suggestions you have, Blessed-one. You are the one who started Christia, after all.

As I've been saying in my other threads, I'm leaving CF for a while. I think you're all in GOS, so you can look there for the reasons.

However, I feel that I have a responsibility to this thread, so I will be keeping up with it. I would, however, appreciate if someone would email me on any important decisions, especially if I haven't been around in a while.

Hi Blessed-one! I can't speak for everyone, but your help will be greatly appreciated, I'm sure.

    HEY EVERYONE!

RIGHT, so. I know I've been MIA for the last...oh...week. But I promise, I didn't mean to! I was in Florida for a week at a scientific conference and wouldn't you know it, the hotel I was at lost internet just as I got there and still didn't have any before I left.

Believe me, it caused bigger problems than me not being able to post here. But now I'm back, very busy catching up after a week of missing classes, but I'm here and over the next week I'll be playing catch up with the threads I'm in, the homework I've missed, and the tests coming up.

See you all in the posting world ASAP (aka, the speed of my ability to read up).

    ~Star

((P.S. If you are in other threads with me...you will have seen this before))

Okay, we have a new owner of the site, and Drama thinks we can get some things done around here now if we play our cards right. Am I to become the new chairman then? (Remember, though I am leaving, I will still be updating on this thread as much as possible). If so, we need to PM the guy now. If not, then we should get someone else to be Chairman.

And WOF, I do believe you were going to post the bill on Technology. Just a reminder.

Sorry, this has taken so long. And sorry, Sam, I managed to accidentally delete the form for making a proposal, but to delay further would be truly irresponsible so forgive me that this is not in the appropriate format.

Proposal: that the era we use as a point of reference for Christia shall be Earth's early Renaissance, 1350-1500.

In using the early Renaissance as a point of reference we can then deduce what types of technology would be seen in Christia.

While gunpowder had been invented and the blunderbus was being used this technology will be banned from Christia.

Although heavy armor and heavy weapons were falling out of favor and were quickly becoming obsolete by 1500 we shall not prevent anyone from having a character that uses older technology, but none shall use anything beyond the early Renaissance.

Beyond setting the limits at the year 1500, and no gunpowder, the committee shall leave the knowledge base of each individual character up to the player who creates him/her. Again, players must bear in mind that the knowledge must have been discovered, and preferably relatively well known, by the year 1500.

((Is this enough? Too much? Not enough? Let me know, I'll include more if necessary.))

I don't think this fits very well. That makes Ember's technology cleanly against the rules, and some characters ridiculously heavily armored (for the time period) It's a good begining, but I don't think it's good for a final draft :)

She did, however, cover that heavier equipment is not banned. So it's more like a technological cap than a technological requirement.

However, Drama is right in that this puts Ember way out of the limitations. Should there just be an excuse for Ember? It was just like any other city until the Emberian war. Perhaps Kalt Hammer was a genius and no one realized it? Thrusting them into a technological leap that no one else has? Perhaps Ember could just be the exception...

    UPDATE

I've updated the first post with an important methods of conducting business section. I thought that would help anyone unsure of how to do things.

Also, this is my last post in this thread before I leave for my hiatus. I will not be on regularly, but I will still check this thread often to keep up on things. If there's something of any importance whatsoever, and I haven't been around, please, please, please email me a reminder to check in. :) Thanks

One more thing, Star, are you keeping a "minutes" of our decisions? I am thinking that you were, but this is a double-check. If not, don't feel worried. I will go back through the thread and find where decisions/important points were made and post links of them on the first post.

Okay, we just need PD's and Star's opinions on WOF's proposal, and then we can move on to the writing of the bill and passing/rejecting it. :ebil:

O_O....sorry Sam. Totally forgot. Luckily we haven't decided on too many things. I'll get on that when I have time this next week, don't worry :)

But as for the proposal, I more than agree with Sam and Drama. Ember certain is putting a thorn in that side of the proposal and though an exception will be made for Ember because of previous threads already having been established, here is a third option.

Instead of saying that Ember is the exception, perhaps we can say Ember is the highest possible limit and therefore is the greatest amount of achievement the world of Christia can ever hope to achieve. Human history is fraught with slow progress, but punctuated by sudden bursts of inspiration. Consider for example nearly 500 years of relatively slow advancement until the early 1900's when suddenly technology took a giant leap forward from just then inventing the light bulb to traveling in space and having microwavable mac&cheese.

So, basically, Ember being the ultimate achievement, that means other technologies would be limited and confined to below Ember (preferable considerably below) but more complicated than that.

Perhaps we can establish a rough estimate of what countries (or cities) are most advanced in what. Obviously Ember is highly advanced in the art of creating and using advanced battle weapons. However, they are extremely bad at magic, which the Elves are the very best at. However, Elves cannot build great cities like the Perians can, who in turn cannot support the greatest philosophical country which is Eyrel.

((Bare in mind these are off the top of my head and are examples))

A line of thought such as that may bring balance to Christia and a more concrete placing of technologies instead of general no's and yes's.

I approve of all of them, though would like to hear why Dave disapproves of the second.

I like 'em all but the second, as they basically seem like skinny/tall dwarves...but I suppose if he needs them for The Deep Realms, I'm in support of it.

They do appear to be tall, skinny dwarves, but IMHO so what? In reality there are races that are similar yet different. Why not in a fantasy realm too? I know you guys are not out and out rejecting this, I just like the discussion.

Shadow has my vote to include these races in Christia's history/culture.

Shadow can't post here and I like to be able to see the request in the same thread in which the voting will be occuring. It is for my convenience only, thus I copy and pasted.
