At least Obama recognises he did nothing to expect it.
Obama was certainly gracious and well-spoken in his reaction. It does not reflect poorly on him so much as it does on those that are pandering with such accolades.
His every paragraph shows it is thru his oral speeches and not his actions that is presumably the cause.
Without any achievement, it is apparent that the committee is not taking him seriously. One might think that he takes himself seriously enough to actually hope that his presidency will lead to some worthy achievments worthy of such accolades.
Clearly, the Nobel committee does not take him seriously enough to think that what he achieves is a priority.

In science, they are still pretty heady stuff. There is a little more attemtp in objectivity in the hard sciences still.
Altho i was surprised Reagan and Gandi didnt for their action, and not just a 'call' to action, either.
I would have been surprised if Reagan would have been given one, given that he was in no way oriented to the left.

Ghandi was before my time. His stature as a pacifist who actually made a difference certainly has grown over time though.
