Matthew 22:
41
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
They said to Him, “The Son of David.”
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?

45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?”
46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did
anyone dare question Him anymore.

Are there any scriptures (besides Psalm 110 quoted), that would explain what
the Pharisees lacked in understanding the point being made in this discourse?

Jesus is the lord of heaven and earth. Jesus proclaims His own deity at this point.

44The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?

For I did not speak from Myself, but the Father Himself, having sent Me, gave Me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.

In the gospel passages it became clear that they didnt understand the spiritual type of sonship that was applied by Jesus when speaking about it.

Another example is when he called them children of their father, the devil.

The funny thing about this particular part of the gospel, each of the first three gospels have a different question after which no one dared to ask him another question.

In general Luke 20, Matthew 22, Mark 12.

its interesting that Jesus said to his disciples Already you are clean by reason of the word that I have spoken to you. in relation to “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow;

which is to say when we reason with God we become clean “Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”

we must come out from the reasoning between two fruits of a tree ... which is the chosen fast

Don't understand how your post is related to mine, but it is a fun scriptural puzzle, which is why I mentioned it.

the Pharisees lacked in understanding the point being made in this discourse?
1 Corinthians 2:8
"None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."

Paul later in that letter asks those in Corinth, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own," 1 Corinthians 6:19

What the Pharisees weren't understanding, seems like some of the those Christians may also not understand. It wasn't the Temple at Jerusalem that the LORD was returning to, it was the flesh and blood image of God the LORD appeared in. "The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man," Acts of the Apostles 17:24

The Pharisees were aware and understood that God hadn't returned to their 2nd Temple at Jerusalem. The apostles wanted to know when their exile in their own land under the rule of a foreign emperor would end. Acts of the Apostles 1:6

44The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born
of the Spirit is spirit.

Romans 1:
3
concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David
according to the flesh,
4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of Holiness,
by the resurrection from the dead.

Yeshua was crucified for claiming to be the Son of God. The Resurrection and the
Ascension proved
His claim.

Matthew 26:
63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You
under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”
64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see
the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further
need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!
66 What do you think?” They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”

They knew exactly what He was making reference to when He claimed that
He would
be seated at the Right Hand of Power!
Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels has He ever said:
“Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”?

Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Another reference to "sit at my right hand until...".
Acts 3:
19
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times
of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before,
21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which
God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began
.

I did not know that or at least put three and three together.
It's a fun riddle today, but it boils down to audience.
It seems to refer to the entire discussion being the final time that He was confronted by them;
at least, until His trial, where He proclaims:
64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see
the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
