Since that time, a photographer who shot many of the images now at the center of the controversy told KTSM NBC9 in El Paso he “didn’t ever see them (the agents) whip anybody,” Breitbart Texas reported.

Photographer Paul Ratje said his photos have “really been misconstrued.”

Among those who apparently misconstrued the images is the President of the United States.

The President is in La La land, so we can understand his own mistake, but as for the New York Times' error and the correction, the editors know very well that the public will remember the report of immigrants being whipped, "correction" or no correction.

Whether true or not, the idea, dutifully picked up and repeated by other irresponsible news corporations, was made to appear correct to millions of people, especially those who WANT to believe it happened.

Photographer Paul Ratje said his photos have “really been misconstrued.”
Ratje, the photographer who took the controversial photo, also weighed in on what happened, telling NPR and a news station the following about what he captured with his lens: “Some of the Haitian men started running, trying to go around the horses, and that’s when the whole thing happened. I never saw them whip anyone. The agent was swinging the reigns that to some can be misconstrued when your looking at the pictures.”
Trust Index: Border Patrol agents on horseback did not use whips when confronting migrants

President Biden went too far in his statement by accepting what he was told before there was actual confirmation of the facts. This doesn't just look bad but it makes me wonder about any future reports that may be condemned or acted on without the facts that may have more serious consequences.

True, but maybe there's a silver lining. Those pictures clearly say loud a clear, "the US border is NOT open."

Really? Chasing a handful of invaders around from horseback...and the immigrants not paying much mind at all to the border agents or the horses, as we see in the videos...convinces you that the million or more illegals who have crossed into the country in just the past 8+ months did not have the benefit of hundreds of miles of unguarded borders (which they did) and an invitation from the current occupant of the White House?

It was already known that no whipping took place before Joe threatened border patrol agents. Why do you think Joe has not yet apologized and reinstated horses for Border Patrol, do you think no one at the White House reads the NY Times? The answer is that the areas formerly patrolled are now open to more cartel sponsored people crossing the border, more drugs, more sex trafficking, more rapes, more people dying in the desert. But to so many leftist leaders it is worth it for more votes. There is a huge caravan coming from South America, Joe knows this too, easily stoppable to a president that wanted them stopped.

It's good if they never actually hit anyone. Still, swinging the reins at people, even if just to intimidate them, is not authorized for American Border Patrol agents.
Whips are not authorized for border patrol agents, agents swinging the reigns help to quickly move a horse from left to right. Border Patrol agents are overburdened trying to deal with large crowds because of Joe Biden. Biden has been caught in lie after lie, Joe canceled flights to Haiti and that's why the crowd under the bridge became so large. You divert officers there and it puts other border patrol personnel at great risk. And Joe threatens these hard working Americans, saying they will pay?

Show us that. It appears that the mass of refugees at the border was checked, deported, sent to processing centers, or otherwise dispersed in a very short time.

DEL RIO, Texas (AP) — No migrants remained Friday at the Texas border encampment where almost 15,000 people — most of them Haitians — had converged just days earlier seeking asylum, local and federal officials said.

It’s a dramatic change from last Saturday, when the number peaked as migrants driven by confusion over the Biden administration’s policies and misinformation on social media converged at the border crossing connecting Del Rio, Texas, and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico.

At a news conference, Del Rio Mayor Buno Lozano called it “phenomenal news.”

Many face expulsion because they are not covered by protections recently extended by the Biden administration to the more than 100,000 Haitian migrants already in the U.S., citing security concerns and social unrest in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country. The devastating 2010 earthquake forced many of them from their homeland.
Officials: All migrants are gone from Texas border camp

Yes, it was a challenge. Trump had a somewhat smaller group, and it took him months to clear it up. Or are you saying Biden was too hasty in dealing with the crisis?

You need to do a little youtube search on split reins, and you would realize you don't swing them to intimidate people. It's a tool used for horses not people. If the journalist did their job before making such ignorant claims? This thread wouldn't even be here.

I realize its to much to ask for news sources to do their job, and make sure they know what they are talking about before running with the story. That is what they did in the past, and sadly to often today they would rather clean up their mess afterwards. They used to verify it before release to be sure it was accurate. That's why they had a better reputation then they do today. It's unfortunate that money comes before accuracy.

Problem I see now is the horses are still grounded even after the lies about the split reins were spread far and wide to get their monthly click bait needed for income out. It was debunked even before Biden commented on it, and he also needs to apology to his federal employees for his mistake. I doubt he will do that, because most don't bother. If he is all he claimed he was during the campaign? He would step up, and justifiably so.

Well, I don't. On the other hand, it certainly works pretty well. But in general, swinging reins is probably less intimidating than the mass of a horse aggressively moved toward a person.

Yes, the horse moving around is something people can see, the border patrol riders are vastly outnumbered and you don't want to shoot someone unless your life is in danger (the Capitol shooting was a bad shooting).

Of course you wouldn't. Why change your mind when the truth is out there, and you don't wish to see it.

I mean you have already moved the goalpost here instead. It went from intimidating people by swinging split reins - to now using an intimidating horse.

Biden needs to address his error (I won't say LIE, because I don't know how it was presented to him), and they need to release the horses trained for this type of work. There is a reason they have been used for years, and the government buys/trains horses for this type of work.

The press did their job badly, but of course that's why their reputation is in the dumper. They do a great job of making drama where their doesn't need to be, but since it makes them money? No doubt they will continue to do so. Drama and Crisis makes their bottom line, and if it is a slow week? One media company can manipulate a crisis out of a picture without verified facts, and the rest of them JUMP on the bandwagon.

I notice the refugees cringing and ducking. Whether from swinging leather reins or just to avoid the oncoming horse is pretty much a moot point, isn't it?
