Russia has shown no interest in being in the EU, unless they control the show.

Ukraine has wanted to be in the EU for a while, but I don't see letting just them in the EU stopping the war unless the entire EU sends their armies once they join.

As has been pointed out to you before, the European Parliament is for members of the European Union, a category that neither RUssia or Ukraine are in. Russia has also never expressed interest in joining the EU, and Ukraine's interest in joining the EU and NATO are part of the reason for the war in the first place.

When I read the title in the "feed" I wondered:

"Could this be that thing again?"

Then I saw the originator, and was certain that it was.

A quick check of the thread confirmed my overwhelming suspicion of yet another thread about gaining peace from Russia by appeasing them with something they haven't even asked for. Sigh.

To the OP: When you are in a hole, stop digging. You don't understand Russia's motives or what would appease them. Quit offering solutions based on your false assumptions about them.

Maybe we can reform it in a US-politics centered fashion. In the style of the OP...

If the US got seats in the European Parliament would they (us) stop antagonizing Russia by helping Ukraine fight off the Russian attack and thus get Russia to stop attacking? (Don't really answer, not a serious question.)

To the extent that was a goal it was "France and Germany" that they were trying to prevent war between since they seemed (1939) to be (1914) the biggest (1870) recent (179x-1815) problem for wars in the region outside the Iron Curtain. And France and Germany were the two main economic powers in the first precursor to the EU which was small and about coal.

That said:

The US is not part of, nor will ever be part of the *European* Union. Russia has no apparent interest in such either. So this is still off topic and the solution proposed in the OP doesn't matter to Russia anyway.

(So what if the US is in NATO, that is a military alliance which is *not* part of the EU or Euro-parliament and exists to face off against Russia[USSR].)

This isn't really true. Sure, it was one of the aims but the start of the European Union started as an economic union -- in fact, the European Coal and Steel Community (1951) is credited with being the original origin of the EU. That expanded into more economic agreements between states, the European Economic Community (1957).

The EU wasn't started to "prevent war" as they already had the North American Treaty Organization which prevented war between the early EC member states -- all six of the founding members were part of NATO -- particularly since the fear of war came predominately from the Soviet Union.

Additionally, Russia would never agree to become part of the EU, giving up a portion of their national sovereignty to the European Parliament and some of their policies -- which was a major reason for the UK leaving the EU.

Considering that Russia has explicitly said they do not want to join the EU, it's never going to happen.
