I've often seen the comment that the old political labels don't fit the current reality very well; here's an attempt to broadly define what the new groups might be.

What type of Aussie are you? Meet the 7 new political tribes

Do you think they're realistic, and (if you'd like to share) which one are you?*

(I came up "progressive cosmopolitan;" I think I can live with that!)

*Note: this is in the Australia/NZ forum, although I'd be interested in how others find this too.

Yeah I think there's a bit of insight here, although I would say it's even more complicated or confused than that. People just seem to be getting less and less consistent and will pick and choose a political leaning according to the situation that suits them at the time.

My experience of Australia is a bunch of staunch socialists out of the trade union mould, who would also variously as individuals fit into just about any of these groups.

Me? On a bad day somewhere between ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT FIREBRAND and DISILLUSIONED PESSIMIST.

But I prefer Groucho Marx' sentiment:

"I sent the club a wire stating, "PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT PEOPLE LIKE ME AS A MEMBER"".

On a good day there ain't no box that can hold me, as Paul wrote: So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

Actually took the test this time and got ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT FIREBRAND with LAVISH MOD-CON a close second. Gulp!!!

I got "Disillusioned Pessimist", then I laughed until I cried.

I remind everone of Carlin's wise words, "inside every cynic is a heart broken idealist".

I go prudent traditionalist which I don't think is all the good a fit, though there were quite a few bars quite close to it in size, so maybe I am a bit more mixed.

I have normally divided the landscape as
  • ALP-Left - fiscal approach - Made round to go round ~ focus on equitable(?) distribution of wealth
  • LNP-Right - fiscal approach - Made flat to stack ~ focus on generating more wealth for all(?)
The acrimonious character of contemporary politics has left many feeling that the system is broken.

I'm Activist Egalitarian whatever that is, it sounds ok. I'm the one with the stupid conscience that rejects the offer of the plastic bag at the supermarket because I know it will ruin the environment for todays animals and tomorrows generations. i'll also buy my own solar panel array and install it because the government isnt trying hard enough with renewables.

I have to choose the vegetarian options or free range eggs over the cage ones or I'll feel bad.

I have very green tendancies having grown up in the 80's during the green revolution. I was kinda hoping this climate change thing wouldn't happen. I'll still fight that with my votes.
