After shopping around for a couple months after converting, I've decided on a denomination: Catholicism! Everyone look at my new fancy cross!

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've attended a couple masses, read the catechism, looked up a bunch of view points on various issues, studied at home all interesting things like transubstantiation, etc. I'm going to contact the priest later today. I guess I'll probably have to go through some classes before the sacriments.

Hey Tex, welcome!
Where are you from, I lived in Texas for about 8 years around the Ft. Hood area, sort of inbetween Austin and Waco. Spent some time in BEAUTIFUL San Antonio as well.

My friend, make sure you study all you can and that you truly understand it. Don't fall into the trap of, "Well it just seems right", if you get my drift.
Reason being, that one of these days, an "on-fire for the Lord" Protestant is going to walk up to you, and start throwing Bible verses out to you from every which way, and of course, they will twist context to prove their point, and then, depending on the issue being discussed, you may not have studied it and it may cause you to start doubting your faith in God.
Many a Catholic has fallen to this scenario...mainly because they weren't properly taught their faith (or they didn't listen) in regards to cradle Catholics, or they didn't study their faith and just tried to jump in, in regards to converts...
Secondly, you want to make sure you're properly catechized, as it sounds like you are seeking to do, and make sure you at least know the basics very well.

I've studied religion for a relatively long time, and dealt with fundie protestants a lot.
Let me rephrase the "just feels right": I agree with the teachings, doctrines, beliefs, etc of the Catholic Church and it feels like a good home for my soul

Catholicism is not a denomination because "denomination" means to 'rename'. The Catholic Church has never been "renamed". Its the Original.
So you wouldn't call Catholicism a denomination no more that you would call the 'trunk' of the tree a 'branch'.
