"When God takes away the good, the sober, the understanding part of a nation, and leaves a nation very thin of such kind of persons: Verses 1–3, “Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water, the mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.” When God makes a nation thin of such persons, it is a preparation and disposition to their ruin.

Weakness in their government is another preparation and disposition: “And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them,” verse 4.

Horrible disorder in the minds of men, and contempt of God’s order, that should be among them: “And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable,” verse 5.

When there is great oppression and persecution: “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them,” verse 12. And what did they do? “Ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord God of hosts,” verses 14, 15.

And, lastly, there is horrible pride, and especially the pride of vain and foolish women; which the prophet insists upon from verse 16 to the very last words of the chapter, and concludes, “Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.” - John Owen

The United States of America isn't national Israel - God destroyed them, a double portion of judgement for her sins. She is no more... not moved to the U.S of A.

As for lessons we can glean from her judgement and sins, there are many. There is a distinct pattern nations take that leads to their ultimate demise, and the good ole U.S. of A. is happily and gleefully traveling that well trodden path.

Are you sure you're a Calvinist?^_^

Instead of adopting a secular, evolutionary worldview where you seek to explain God's judgement against the sin of nations and peoples through patterns, allow scripture to inform you. Jesus is judging the nations now from the right hand of the Father until His enemies become His footstool. "Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is You who possesses all the nations"

Deuteronomy 29:24-2624 All the nations will say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?’ 25 Then men will say, ‘Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 26 They went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they have not known and whom He had not allotted to them. (notice all nations with Israel in particular)

All men are in covenant with God, through Adam or through Christ. The former of works which no one but Christ can fulfill and latter by grace alone.

Yours in the Lord,

jm
PS: That was joke by the by, you can be a Calvinist and not Reformed or covenantal.

I disagree with you. All men are not in covenant with God, only those whom are saved children of God under the New Covenant are in covenant with God.

The unsaved are outside of covenant... if they were inside the covenant they'd be both saved and Spirit filled, led by God and we wouldn't be having these issues...

Maybe this is where our difference lies... I believe only God's people are in covenant with God, though all people will be judged according to their response to it...

Well, that's just not correct. All people are in covenant with God OR ELSE they wouldn't be condemned for breaking the covenant of works.
