Naming Items

So a few of us were talking and we got on the subject of naming things such as cars , gadgets ,plants , what not ... how many of you name things and what's the name and the story behind it ?

My car was named Flash because it seemed like a cool name at the time, and after a few other nerdy references.

I've named plants before. Oh! And musical instruments.

And no, I have not lost my marbles thankyouverymuch!

I don't even name my animals, my 15 year old iguanas name is "iguana"

In WoW you can't name your water elemental or mounts, but I would call them names anyhow. I called my water elemental pet on my mage Taco and my Elekk, (elephant), mount on my shaman Pedro. When I would refer to them, people were like, "What?!"

Other than that, not that I can recall. lol Sorry just instantly came to mind.

I sometimes name things, it depends on how I feel about them.

I tried to name my plants once, but kept forgetting what I named them - so gave up!

My first car was Kermit the frog. And my car now had two names the more important one is Casper the other one is a tad dirty and we came up with it when we were drunk due to the number plate

I'm like Charlie Chan. My first son will be Number One Son, the second Number Two Son, etc.

hehehe.. I have 2 cats, one is black, the other orange. their names are the black cat, and the orange cat.



The only object i've named is my old car, her name was Taury. b/c she was a ford taurus. My truck's name is.... Truckster Reginald Albert the 3rd. Truck for short.

I name everything (almost), purely because everything should have a name, even if that name changes on a frequent basis. That and I have a lot of names i'm never going to use, so if I use them on objects the list becomes shorter.

It depends. Something like a car or anything mechanical I'm more likely to name because machines seem to develop a personality of sort over time.

It sort of always bothered me when people would name their body parts...
That may be a totally different discussion though.

Actually, I don't understand body part naming either. Not unless it's a prosthetic, i've met one or two with prosthetic limbs who've given them names, I understand that.

I don't name things that don't generally need naming. People, animals. Of course. Even some items that require network access and names for the network, yes.

For the inanimate objects (network devices, iPods, etc...), it is usually something relating to geekery/nerdery.

I name all my animals- and I tend to name other people's animals, even if they already have names. Sometimes they are more personalized names, other times they are not.

I call my sisters 'Sister Unit 1-3' and my parents 'Parental Units'. But usually only in my head.

I name my computers Bob.

I don't like animals so I generally refer to all pets as their type. My parents cat is "cat", my sisters dog is "dog" etc.

My old jeep that kept having problem after problem when I was tight on money was named "Murphy" and no that had nothing to do with Robo-Cop though he was rebuilt just about as much... it had to do with Murphy's Law...

my current one doesn't have a name yet... it took 8 months to name Murphy and I've not yet had the new one that long...

As for naming of Tech that's usually based on fictional or real characters in books I'm reading...
