Which came first? the flower or the bee?

If the flower came first, how was it pollinated?

I'm going to guess it was the flower, and it was first pollinated by wind and something that looked more like flies. :)

Usually examples of mutualistic relationships don't involve one "coming first", since they co-evolved...They evolved together. But if we want to be technical, I would say that the flower came first because there are other mechanisms of pollination. Most gymnosperms, for example, are pollinated by wind. Also, in other earlier plants, like ferns and bryophytes, pollination through the use of water carrying the sperm. You might not call these "flowers", but they are basically proto-flowers that came first, which allowed opportunity for insect pollination to begin, and lead to the bright and colorful flowers that we enjoy today.

Bees aren't the only insects, or only animals for that matter, that move pollen from plant to plant. Plants also spread their pollen by the wind.

Challenge met.

That has to be about the fastest failed "challenge" that AV has ever posted.

I'm not sure exactly what the "challenge" was in the first place....Didn't realize the OP has a history of asking such questions.

Was this an attempt to disprove evolution??

The OPer has a long history of failed "challenge" threads.

Was this an attempt to disprove evolution??

At this point it's little more than performance art.

It's actually an interesting question as it sort of touches on why there are so many species of beetles in particular and insects in general. With the arrival of the flowering plant, the close relationship that developed between beetles/insects and flowering plants led to huge numbers of speciation situations.

Fungi evolved. Back then, as with most fungi today, they reproduced asexually.

Insects evolved.

Flowering plants evolved.

Biologists are not complete idiots you know.

The Bible says angiosperms came before insects.

Thoughts?
Like, what, ONE or TWO days before?

They could easily have gone that long without pollinating, if the wind wasnt up.

I totally agree, but I don't think pollenation by aeolian means was the Creator's intent; unless it was supposed to be that way.
