I haven't allowed my gardener to touch my Bougainvillea and a few other plant. I was talking to him about raking my nasty old pebble rocks . Because, I want a walk way. I said my lemon tree may need to be trimmed a few months . The next day , My gardener butchered the lemon tree. When I was gone. Can this lemon tree make it.

I would not be happy but I do think it has a chance of making it. It may be more susceptible to disease because of the splits in the limbs. Looks like a sloppy job. I’d call the people You have employed and ask for clarification on why it was handled this way.

Get a new gardener if i was you. Cut the split and bare pieces off, or you might get rot. You can buy pruning paint at any good plant store. The tree will be fine. i prune mine every years if they grow to high or wide. Most fruit tree like a severe hair cut just after Winter they bear much more fruit doing that. Lemons on the other hand grow all year around so pruning needs to be done more carefully. Usually only the upright shoots.
