  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So now Christians who value the word of God are "bigots"? Furthermore, this has no comparison to interracial couples. The bible condemns racism but it also condemns homosexuality. Where do you draw the line? Based on your point of view, would you not be guilty of hypocrisy if you did not also condone incest, polygamy, bestiality, and pedophilia? In this case, if you disagree with any of these things you will be a bigot for "keeping someone from the person they love". Do you see why this is an important issue?

You could keep slaves and say that you “value the word of god.” Obviously I don’t believe god has a problem with transgender people or gay people. I have no idea why that would mean I think pefophilia is OK. That’s pretty silly.

Why is pedophilia silly? Do you not see the point? How can you possibly say pedophilia is silly without coming across as a bigoted hypocrite because you think homosexuality is ok? Now you're the bigoted hypocrite for denying your 10 year old daughter from having a sexual relationship with a 40 year old man when you let her older brother marry a man who thinks he is a girl. Next thing you know, your daughter is posting a question on a Christian forum to try and understand her parent's "Christian" point of view and wondering why you won't accept her relationships.

Jesus is clearly saying that RE-MARRIAGE after divorce IS adultery. He gave no caaveats after he said that.

Either way, that type adultery was never coined a damnable sin, and was never even punishable in Moses law.

It seems the original question that led to all this has all but dissipated, or was that the intention? So lets get back to that. Here is the original question:

I'd challenge you to show us any Christian that condones adultery or says it's a lessor sin?

Adultery as in what was as actual punishable adultery, divorce and remarriage was not treated as blatant adultery or punishable, so for the purpose of the question, leave that out.

Now if all this was a diversion, and you choose not to answer the question, as you now know how it was intended (standard adultery) that's up to you, I'll not continue to argue around the question. I asked one thing and I only want an answer. If I don't get that, I'm sticking with my stance that Homosexuals are not singled out from other types of sin.

I would also ask you one other thing. What does Jesus himself actually SAY about homosexuality.

That is often used as a defense, so, what is your point? are you really trying to tell me because Jesus didn't mention that sin by name, it's no longer a sin? What about the scripture in the NT that says it is not only sin but a damnable sin? That's just not going to help you.

And thanks for quoting the following, hope you took it to heart:

Dude, maybe you should reread my post.

Did you not say:

Perhaps you should reread my post. How can you make the statement that it is "silly" to suggest pedophilia is Okay and when you support homosexuality? Yet, I am a bigot because I think that it is "silly" to suggest homosexuality is okay? Once again, imagine that your 10 year old daughter wanted to have a consensual sexual relationship with a 40 year old man. You already told your son it was ok to have a sexual relationship with another man. How then are you not a hypocritical, ignorant bigot for denying your 10 year old daughter for loving the person she wants? Next thing you know, she is on CF asking how to best deal with you, one of her bigoted parents.

This was the argument the OP was making when he was suggesting that christians were hypocritical, ignorant bigots for allowing his divorced sister to get remarried and yet refuse to accept him marrying a transsexual.

Please don’t let your parents’ bigotry keep you from marrying the person whom you love.
My fellow Christians, this is exactly how this world is going to fall back into the times of Babylon. This is exactly why it will be worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. It is because Christians decided to compromise the Word of God in order to appease the world. Today it is homosexuality, tomorrow it is pedophilia and the "Love has no age." propaganda. Then incest, then animals. If you are a Christian who condones and supports gay marriage and homosexual behavior, you must seriously ask yourself where your "red line" is. Then ask yourself how do you justify it.

Ok, I’ll say it again. It is silly to think that because I am OK with transgender people I am OK with pedophilia. The two things are completely unrelated. Not everyone shares your exact view of the world, and a lot of Christians accept LGBT folks. But I’m pretty sure you knew that.

I am not saying you are okay with pedophilia. My question is what is your justification without sounding like a hypocrite.

A hypocrite is someone whose behaviors don’t line up with their stated values. So unless you have knowledge of me not being accepting of trans people, I’m at a loss as to how you think I can be a hypocrite.

I think you're linking pedophilia with homosexuality and with transgender identity because these are all issues related to sex, but the arguments related to each of these questions are quite different.

To my knowledge, pedophilia isn't directly addressed in Scripture (except under the general heading of loving one's neighbor as one's self), but the modern argument against pedophilia would be based on the idea of free, informed, full consent, which a child cannot give.

The argument against homosexual intimacy is based on the Mosaic law, together with a couple of passages from St. Paul's letters. It does not reference the idea of informed consent.

The argument against accepting transgender people eludes me, to be honest, but I think the best argument would be based on one's philosophical and theological understanding of human nature and God's intent in creating humans as gendered beings.

Thus, while these are all issues relating to sex, the three arguments are different in their premises and in their reasoning. One could accept one or two of these arguments without accepting all three.

This thread isn’t a joke, it involves the life and loved ones of the OP, and sidetracking the discussion just to make petty jabs isn’t helpful, IMO.
Not a joke.

Well, my fiance was born with male genitals,

clarification needed,

are you saying your significant other was born a girl with male parts, thus making this person a hermaphrodite, or was this person born as a boy who began exhibiting female characteristics in behavior?

Are you not accepting of pedophiles? How can you accept homosexuals and not pedophiles? Who are you to tell a 10 year old girl she cannot love a 40 year old man when you think it is bigotry for a Christian to tell a man he cannot love another man?

Well, what about polygamy? Would you not be a bigot if you did not agree with a man having several wives? What about your thoughts on incest? I remember reading a little somethin' somethin' about having sex with your father's sister. In fact, it was right there next to the verse condemning homosexuality and bestiality?

I just want to be clear that when it comes to the word of God, we need to think long and hard before we make a compromise. Because if you give a mouse a cookie, it is going to ask for a glass of milk. If you are not willing to give the mouse the milk, you probably shouldn't give the mouse a cookie in the first place.

If you believe that "hypocrite" is not an accurate word, perhaps we can use "double standard"?
