• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello
I noticed the Aspergers forum here last week and thought that i would try and share some of the reasons i believe Aspergers syndrome to be a good thing and not negative like some people believe. I was diagnosed with aspergers at a young age after i was misdiagnosed with ADHD. At the time i thought it meant i was less than other people and nothing but a weirdo and a freak, but that was not true. I have come to realize that its a good thing as it has helped me a lot through my life.

Because of Aspergers i got to meet some of my all time best friends in my special ed class. I also stayed out of trouble for the most part and my family never had to worry about where i was at night. Since i loved reading and reading was one of my special interests i ended up getting high grades in English all through school, although the same can not be said for math. Overall i just that i'm happy to have aspergers as it has made me who i am and i wouldn't want to change a singe thing about me.

I've posted in the past here that AS has been a blessing in my life, at least the way I look at it.
So your not alone in thinking its a good thing.
I didn't learn that I had AS till I was in my 50's. Even then it is not as bad as others have it.
I also give God a lot of credit for guiding me to to think thru many things in my life and as I thought them thru
I was able to find ways to change my behavior to what I thought was healthier for me.

I was not diagnosed with Aspergers until my early 20's. It was acctually a huge blessing to find out why I was the way I am. In all honesty I am content and feel blessed to have been made this way, even though there are challenges and struggles that I face because of it. Even though I have many social struggles God has given me a love for His people. I am now a missionary in Central Asia and my special intrests since I was a child have been the study of the Bible, cultures and language. These have helped me to be better equipted in the calling the Lord has given me. As I can pick up language rather quickly, focus on studing the culture in which I now live and have the knowledge and wisdom that the Lord has given me through the study of His Word and in my pursuit for Him. Even though it is difficult for me socially I find that I am much more comfortable socially living in a culture I have had to learn than in the culture I grew up in.
I believe that many of the symptons that have come with having Aspergers in my life has better equipted me for the calling God specifically gave me- to bring the good news to Central Asia and to those who have not heard it before. God created us all according to His perfect will and plan. He created me with Aspergers and I have found it to be a blessing for He has given me the gifts, traits and character that are helping me to serve Him in the calling He has given me. He equipted me with all the tools that I would need in order to be successful through Him.

Hi; good to see you; I hope your language studies and testimony activities go well. Great that you have a gift for languages.

As the title and the OP and this post shows , as I found out even later in life,
YHWH is able and does make everything work out for good, according to HIS PURPOSE.
I'm 'borderline' high functioning (almost not ever noticed)
and 'prefer' the times I'm not, though both are 'me', as it is less stressful on me,
but I don't always do what is needed to do what is best for myself - I just let it go and live with it and am learning now 'baby steps' to more consistently do what is best.(less stressful). When others were helping, sometimes that wasn't as good as when they don't help ! (that surprised me a lot!) This can change day to day, even hour to hour some days.

YHWH is SOVEREIGN and in charge and I always find comfort in HIM, no matter what.

I registered the other day.

My presentation can be found in the schizophrenia subforum.

Now, almost 60 years old, I got my Asperger's diagnosed two and a half year ago.

I agree that the good thing about my not too serious Asperger is that:

I've been an introvert many years, and was very pressed by social phobia but the Lord set me free when I got ill in 1984 and met God and Jesus. So I'm seldom nervous nowadays.

I had a wonderful childhood in several ways, I think my ateistic father was holy because all his years in church as a child. Interestingly enough his name means "holy" I discovered the other day. So I was given the gift of being not a child "causing a riot".

I also had a wonderful time, playing much by myself with so many kind of toys that you can imagine, because my mother almost never got birthday presents as young, so we could get 20+ presents!

I also had good use for solitude when I studied, so I got an academic degree, but when I got a research job, my social phobia and mental trouble crashed me in about four years. But I had partly a good life, getting good grades because of both my parents were intelligent.

And now in my older years, my Asperger gets me calm in my loneliness, when the inner voices are hard on me.

I am not so sad because of my Asperger's worst years. "It is good for a man to bear the yoke in his youth", if that is the explanation...

I am interested in getting ideas from other persons with both schizophrenia and Asperger's Syndrome.

Thanks,

/yajoh

P.S. My second name is "Johannes"/John. :) D.S.

B-Viatmins especially Niacin was used before 1950 often .
Enzymes were proven helpful many years before that also.
(throughout the whole body they reduce inflammation and help clean the blood, body, tissues and brain).
After 1950 because of other very very high profit other things have been used instead, that are not nearly so helpful.
(for schz and asp... specifically here; many other health reasons too -- have fun searching and reading as much as possible about the good results they can have).

I eat Vitamin D every day. It has been suggested that it might be good for both schizophrenia and Asperger's Syndrome.

Yes, it may help, but it is one of the 'newer' possible helps;
before 1950 schiz was called pellagra , which is a b-vitamin deficiency . (guess what helps a deficiency?) Anyway, it worked,
so in the 1950's the bigpharma outlawed it and stopped teaching it to doctors (bigpharma with rocky feller and car n. agee wne around the country in the first half of the century and closed down all the medical schools that would not bow down to bigpharma by taking away funding. they gave millions upon millions to others who gave up nutrition and switched to drugs in line with the new world system).

the enzymes have always worked remarkably well for over one hundred years, but are inexpensive, (except the ones used by the ear nose throat specialists) ,
so were phased out of education and not permitted in bigpharma's protocols.

enzymes were first published by antoine bechamp (before pastuer got in for the money and lied along with the industry to go along for the money)
and do a remarkable amazing number of things in the blood stream and throughout the body.
they are very inexpensive and totally non-toxic.

Sorry for not getting back to you much sooner than this, Elana. I assume you can't tell me where you work, but can you tell me a bit about the kind of work you do? If you like you can contact me on private messenger and tell me more.

I come from a family of Autism. I'm the only one with the official diagnosis of being on the spectrum. Furthermore I have what's called synesthesia where two or more senses are one. This, sadly, has not been diagnosed by any psychological or neurological practice. This is my account of what I have. I can't hear a sound and not think about it's color. There were times when this was a HUGE deal and when it wasn't. To me a color is just color. The meaning of that color is subjective to culture. Who here likes yellow? Meh I prefer pale yellows and wheat-ish yellows and guess what the letter A, to me, is orange-yellow and J is pale yellow. Cool. God gave me this gift and so now I have to figure out how to use it. Art classes has helped. Language studies have helped. Math in some of it's forms was fun. To me it's all art. And God is the greatest artist there has and ever will be. The great paradox. Because God has given me these tools I can imagine quite a lot. Christian Sci-fi? Oh yeah. I can write that. Point is there are benefits to learning more about yourself and from that learning knowing and LOVING God, His son, and the Holy Ghost that resides in us all. Hope everyone is doing well and being blessed today!

Hi; interesting thoughts about colour.

I guess associations vary to various people.

God indeed created so many beautiful things.

God has indeed created so many beautiful things. From the tiniest atom to the whole of the Universe that this world doesn't understand. So beautiful. The treasures in Heaven right? So many good deeds and Godly presence. Maybe He'll show us how he created all these things. Eternal love and eternal friendship will be there. That's AWESOME!
