The Mormon view of life after death is totally foreign to what Protestants believe. After death (before the resurrection) the person's spirit goes to a spirit world that is divided into two parts. IMO, it is best to go to official statements on their websites to obtain accurate information.

"The spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.

“And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of the wicked, yea, who are evil—for behold, they have no part nor portion of the Spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good; therefore the spirit of the devil did enter into them, and take possession of their house—and these shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and this because of their own iniquity, being led captive by the will of the devil.

“Now this is the state of the souls of the wicked, yea, in darkness, and a state of awful, fearful looking for the fiery indignation of the wrath of God upon them; thus they remain in this state, as well as the righteous in paradise, until the time of their resurrection” (Alma 40:12–14).

The spirits are classified according to the purity of their lives and their obedience to the will of the Lord while on earth. The righteous and the wicked are separated (see 1 Nephi 15:28–30), but the spirits may progress as they learn gospel principles and live in accordance with them. The spirits in paradise can teach the spirits in prison (see D&C 138).
Gospel Principles, Chapter 41, The Postmortal Spirit World

The thief on the cross next to our Savior could not have been considered righteous without an authorized water baptism. Only those who have already accepted the teachings of Mormonism and obeyed it's laws and ordinances are worthy of Paradise. The other part of the Spirit World is referred to as Spirit Prison. Spirit Prison is a temporary hell.

What are Mormons saying about the thief on the cross these days?

After people are judged and resurrected they will be assigned to one of three Kingdoms of glory or they will be cast into Outer Darkness with Satan and his angels.

You done really well until the last. Spirit prison is reserved for the wicked. If a person is good and lived a good life they will be in paradise. They will be taught the gospel there just as those in spirit prison. When Christ died on the cross and his spirit left his body it went to paradise and he prepares the teaching by bridging the gulf between paradise and spirit prison so those in spirit prison can be taught the gospel as well. Also although we will have further light and knowledge in the spirit world we will still have to live by faith bruise in the spirit world who accept the gospel can be released from it and enter paradise.

Do you realize that you aren't making sense? In the spirit world there are two places. Those who are being taught Mormon teachings are in spirit prison. The only other place in the spirit world is paradise. Those in paradise have already been baptized by one with authority because other baptisms are not considered valid. Any person who has been baptized has already been taught the teachings of your religion.

Paradise is that part of the spirit world in which the righteous spirits who have departed from this life await the resurrection of the body. It is a condition of happiness and peace.

Additional Information
In the scriptures, the word paradise is used in different ways. First, as mentioned above, it designates a place of peace and happiness in the postmortal spirit world, reserved for those who have been baptized and who have remained faithful (see Alma 40:12; Moroni 10:34).
Topics at lds.org

It seems to me that when Mormons answer without first studying the information at lds.org, they are giving their own thoughts which can be inaccurate at times. When I was LDS, I was taught that paradise is "reserved for those who have been baptized and who have remained faithful." I understand that your church teachings are altered over time and I can clearly see why this particular teaching would be changed to accomodate the biblical teaching that the thief went to paradise that very day. However, if Mormonism were true, why would it be necessary to change what supposedly had already been restored? And if Mormons feel a need to conform to the teachings of the Bible, you still have a long way to go.

Well I'm finding there are somethings you really didn't quite grasp when you were Mormon, how long were you?

The man on the cross accepted Jesus right there, his baptism would be done later by proxy. Lot's of people in the spirit prison have accepted Jesus and moved on into paradise waiting for their baptisms to be done. Now I'm of the opinion that they won't be resurrected until the baptism is done. My fellow Mormons can correct me on that if I'm wrong.

Paul said we see though "a glass darkly ... now I know in part" we don't know everything, no buddy does.

But, I'll tell you the Evangelical concept of the after life literal turned my stomach. When the "Christian" woman who witnessed to me could see I was resisting (as I really began reading the Bible) she gave me a pamphlet as her last stab to save my soul. The thing called the children of our Heavenly Father filthy rags and spoke of hell he must have created because he created all things. Her god was going to burn all unbelievers in fire and brimstone. I use a small g in the word God there on purpose because she worshiped a god made in her own image one which was full of hate for everyone who didn't believe like she did. Her god was a failure because 99% of the people who have lived on this earth did not and will not accept her god.

I grew up worshiping a loving Heavenly Father and understanding I was his daughter, even though I would sin he would always love me. The God I worshiped save everyone from death and hell because he loves his children. I spent several nights in turmoil thinking about the monster she called god and for the life of me I can not understand how anyone could rationally worship such a being.

You don't read my posts or forget what you read and then answer erroneously.

In the scriptures, the word paradise is used in different ways. First, as mentioned above, it designates a place of peace and happiness in the postmortal spirit world, reserved for those who have been baptized and who have remained faithful(see Alma 40:12; Moroni 10:34).

The thief had no opportunity to be baptized and remain faithful.

Repentance involves performing certain actions and working to develop Christlike qualities.
Doctrines of the Gospel Student Manual, Chapter 14

  • “It is my judgment that any man or woman can do more to conform to the laws of God in one year in this life than they could in ten years when they are dead. The spirit only can repent and change, and then the battle has to go forward with the flesh afterwards. It is much easier to overcome and serve the Lord when both flesh and spirit are combined as one. This is the time when men are more pliable and susceptible. When clay is pliable, it is much easier to change than when it gets hard and sets.”
Melvin J. Ballard, in Bryant S. Hinckley,Sermons and Missionary Services of Melvin Joseph Ballard, 241

  • “We should take warning and not wait for the death-bed to repent, as we see the infant taken away by death, so may the youth and middle-aged, as well as the infant be suddenly called into eternity. Let this, then, prove as a warning to all not to procrastinate repentance, or wait till a death-bed, for it is the will of God that man should repent and serve Him in health, and in the strength and power of his mind, in order to secure his blessing, and not wait until he is called to die” (Smith, Teachings, 197).
  • As the time of repentance is procrastinated, the ability to repent grows weaker; neglect of opportunity in holy things develops inability” (James E. Talmage,The Articles of Faith, 114).
  • Doctrines of the Gospel Student Manual, Chapter 14
Do you disagree with what your church teaches? If so, at least be honest about its teachings.

This odd you telling me what Mormons believe, I’m not sure where you are cherry picking your quotes from but whoever did it for you has distorted what the church teaches by giving half quotes.

Alma 41
12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.
13 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of the wicked, yea, who are evil—for behold, they have no part nor portion of the Spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good; therefore the spirit of the devil did enter into them, and take possession of their house—and these shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and this because of their own iniquity, being led captive by the will of the devil.

There is in there no requirement for baptism.

I had to dig some because the page number on Talmage’s quote is wrong, not your fault it’s the manuals fault. It’s on page 118-119 and the manual miss quoted Talamge. I’m going to have to email someone at church headquarters!

In the first place he is not talking about those who never received the chance to hear the Gospel in this life, he is talking about those who know they should repent, they have been taught the gospel.

The Holy Spirit has testified to them but they refuse to humble themselves, humility is the key to repentance and after a time the Holy Spirit will have to leave them. Talmage says; “Repentance becomes more difficult as the sin becomes more willful …As the time of repentance is procrastinated, the ability to repent grows weaker; neglect of opportunity in holy things brings a forfeit of the chance…. It is not unreasonable to suppose that the soul who has willfully rejected the opportunity of repentance in this life will find it easy to repent there”

I'm not cherry picking. I did NOT tell you what you believe. In fact, what you believe is not what we're talking about. There are copyrights on published material so I can't quote everything in the manual. What we're discussing is what Mormonism teaches.

Then the fault is in what your church teaches, not me. But I believe you are the one who doesn't know Mormonism. The Book of Mormon, Alma, mentions nothing about the later doctrines in the Doctrine and Covenants about different kingdoms of glory, and different requirements of obedience. The Book of Mormon teaches modalism rather than a plurality of gods. In order to understand Mormonism, you have to be familiar with all that is taught. But, even in Alma 41, the righteous are the ones who go to paradise. If someone is righteous by his decisions and actions, without remission of sins via Mormon baptism, why is he in paradise awaiting a proxy baptism? According to Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual, Enrichment G, the way to know God is by obedience to the laws and ordinances of your church.

Are you saying that repentance is more difficult for Mormons than non-Mormons?

I think you have a very narrow view of the church, the manuals give quotes and the students discuss what they all mean. Scriptures will be read and each adds their own thoughts on the issue. There is no dictator standing there demanding that we all conform to a single thought.

You missed this quote from the same lesson; “I do not believe that any man lives up to his ideals, but if we are striving, if we are working, if we are trying, to the best of our ability, to improve day by day, then we are in the line of our duty. If we are seeking to remedy our own defects, if we are so living that we can ask God for light, for knowledge, for intelligence, and above all, for His Spirit, that we may overcome our weaknesses, then, I can tell you, we are in the straight and narrow path that leads to life eternal. Then we need have no fear” (Heber J. Grant, Gospel Standards, 184–85).

Now don't jump to the conclusion were trying to earn salvation, Present Grant was speaking to Mormons who have been saved from sins and are now seeking to be worthy of the Celestial kingdom.

Phoebe; Are you saying that repentance is more difficult for Mormons than non-Mormons?

Yes and no.

All men have the light of Christ in them which is their conscience. Christians have the Bible and ministers of their faith to help them see their weakness and try to change or spur them on to follow Christ.

But, once you are baptized and receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost then you have that extra influence to help you humble yourselves to repentance.

But in Hebrews 6 &10 there is a very important message. He is talking about those who have;

6“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,..”

10 “ boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh..”

So those that have gone to the temple and taken out their endowments if ;

6 “if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”

10 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries….how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

You can fall from grace and lose the Holy Spirit.

In Alma he is speaking to former believers who are having a hard time humbling themselves and warning them;

35 ….therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you…”

This is what Talmage was addressing in his thoughts on repentance. There is a point where hardheartedness can rule your life and you can no longer feel the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Nephi’s older brothers would be a good example, with everything that happened to them they still rebelled;

Nephi said to them (1Nephi 17)
“Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God. Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder.

And ye also know that by the power of his almighty word he can cause the earth that it shall pass away; yea, and ye know that by his word he can cause the rough places to be made smooth, and smooth places shall be broken up. O, then, why is it, that ye can be so hard in your hearts? Behold, my soul is rent with anguish because of you, and my heart is pained; I fear lest ye shall be cast off forever."

I've attended seminary classes, Sunday School, Sacrament Meeting, Relief Society, read Conference Reports, read a lot of TPJS, DoS, Relief Society manuals, Answers to Gospel Questions, priesthood manuals, Gospel Principles, Gospel Fundamentals, CES manuals, family home evening manuals, gone visiting teaching, gone home teaching, etc.

I didn't miss that. It would make a topic for another thread.

Now don't jump to the conclusion were trying to earn salvation, Present Grant was speaking to Mormons who have been saved from sins and are now seeking to be worthy of the Celestial kingdom.

I don't jump to conclusions, neither do good researchers. But we are on our toes when Mormons attempt to put up a smoke screen.

Article of Faith 3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

I was saved and am being saved by faith in the blood of Jesus.

Can Mormons recieve unearned blessings? NO!

“All who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law” (D&C 132 v. 5).

“Since ‘the Comforter knoweth all things’ (D. & C. 42:17), it follows that it is not possible ‘to lie to the Holy Ghost’ and thereby gain an unearned or undeserved blessing, as Ananias and Sapphira found out to their sorrow. (Acts 5:1–11.) And so this provision that all things must be sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise, if they are to have ‘efficacy, virtue, or force in and after theresurrection from the dead’ (D. & C. 132:7), is the Lord’s system for dealing with absolute impartiality with all men, and for giving all men exactly what they merit, neither adding to nor diminishing from.” (Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3:333–35; see also Notes and Commentary for D&C 76:53; 131:5.)
Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual,
Section 132 Marriage: An Eternal Covenant

Doctrine and Covenants 130
20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—

21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is byobedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

D&C 130:20–21. What Is the Law on Which All Blessings from God Depend?

Obedience is the basic law of heaven, and obedience to specific laws will result in specific blessings, culminating in the greatest blessing, as Elder Marion G. Romney explained: “The perfection upon which exaltation hangs, I repeat, is an individual matter. It is conditioned upon the observance of celestial laws as they apply to earth life. The Word of Wisdom is one of them, so also are chastity, tithing, observance of the Sabbath day, prayer, honesty, industry, love of God and fellow men, patience, kindness, charity, and all the rest of the principles and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each individual who observes one or more of these laws shall receive the blessings predicated thereon, and each Church member who will, with all the energy of his soul, diligently strive to live them all, shall receive the blessings predicated upon such striving. Eternal life, the greatest gift of God, is that blessing, and it will follow the living of the gospel as the night the day, regardless of statistics or averages, or of what others think or say or do.” (In Conference Report, Oct. 1956, pp. 15–16)

The rest of your post could be fodder for a newthread or two.

Phoebe Article of Faith 3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

I was saved and am being saved by faith in the blood of Jesus.

It says “through the Atonement” or his blood that all mankind can be saved. So we agree on that.

The argument is; does faith alone save you?

And now let’s look at the second Article of Faith which explains these laws and ordinances;

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

What does the Bible teach?

“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart/faith, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost…. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.” Acts 2

So there is faith, repentance, baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost.

There is no place in the Bible where it says you will be saved by faith alone. In fact the only passage which has 'faith' and 'alone' in a passages says the opposite;

James 2:17
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

You are confusing salvation from sin with the reward of perfection, exaltation and the Celestial Kingdom

I haven't forgotten a single thing. You say you are a member but you appear to be lacking a lot of knowledge about Mormonism.

I was not confusing anything! Jesus died for our salvation. Salvation means that we will spend eternity with God because we are justified, sanctified and glorified by what God is doing for believers. Our God is merciful. The Mormon god supposedly blesses according to those laws the individual has obeyed. He can't show mercy. At the same time he is obligated to bless Mormons for their obedience.

“The demands of justice for broken law can be satisfied through mercy, earned by your continual repentance and obedience to the laws of God. Such repentance and obedience are absolutely essential for the Atonement to work its complete miracle in your life.”
Mormon Apostle Richard G. Scott, “The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace and Happiness,” Ensign (Conference Edition), November 2006, p.42

“It is the celestial glory which we seek. It is in the presence of God we desire to dwell. It is a forever family in which we want membership. Such blessings must be earned.” *
* The truth is that all blessings must be earned.(D&C 130, verses 20-21)
Thomas Monson, “An Invitation to Exaltation,” Ensign (Conference Edition), May 1988, p.56

“Baptism into Christ’s true church by proper authority opens the doors for exaltation in the eternal kingdoms of glory, exaltation to be earned by repentance, by living righteously, keeping the commandments of the Lord, and service to one’s fellowmen.”
Spencer W. Kimball, “The Stone Cut without Hands,” Ensign (Conference Edition), May 1976, p.7

“There is only one objective so far as our Father’s work is concerned, and that is that in the end when we shall have finished our work here on earth, whether after a short space of time or a long, we too shall have overcome the world and have earned the right to that place called the Celestial Kingdom.”
Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Harold B. Lee, pp.230-231

“Now, brethren and sisters, somebody said in this conference that the same laws apply, the same rules govern today, and it is just as necessary for us to keep the commandments of our Heavenly Father today as it was for any of the prophets of old or any of his faithful sons and daughters who have lived upon the earth, who have earned a right to a place in the celestial kingdom. We can’t gain our exaltation by the good lives of our neighbors, but we can profit by their good example, and we can improve ourselves” (Eighth President George Albert Smith, Conference Reports, April 1948, pp.162-163).

“We are living eternal life, and our position hereafter will be the result of our lives here. Every man will be judged according to his works, and he will receive only that degree of glory that he has earned. (Conference Reports, April 1945, p. 139.)” (The Teachings of George Albert Smith, p.30).

[There is] "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—“the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth.” (D&C 1:30.) There is no salvation or exaltation for us outside of the Church. Through it we receive baptism, priesthood, celestial marriage, and other vital ordinances.

Mormons have a bad habit of withholding any information (such as extra biblical teachings) that they feel the listener isn't ready to hear.

Requirements for Exaltation (Eternal life with God)
. The time to fulfill the requirements for exaltation is now (see Alma 34:32–34). President Joseph Fielding Smith said, “In order to obtain the exaltation we must accept the gospel and all its covenants; and take upon us the obligations which the Lord has offered; and walk in the light and the understanding of the truth; and ‘live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God’” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:43).
To be exalted, we first must place our faith in Jesus Christ and then endure in that faith to the end of our lives. Our faith in Him must be such that we repent of our sins and obey His commandments.
He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:
. 1.
We must be baptized.
. 2.
We must receive the laying on of hands to be confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
. 3.
Brethren must receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and magnify their callings in the priesthood.
. 4.
We must receive the temple endowment.
. 5.
We must be married for eternity, either in this life or in the next.
In addition to receiving the required ordinances, the Lord commands all of us to:
. 1.
Love God and our neighbors.
. 2.
Keep the commandments.
. 3.
Repent of our wrongdoings.
. 4.
Search out our kindred dead and receive the saving ordinances of the gospel for them.
. 5.
Attend our Church meetings as regularly as possible so we can renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament. (cont. next PM)
. 6.
Love our family members and strengthen them in the ways of the Lord.
. 7.
Have family and individual prayers every day.
. 8.
Teach the gospel to others by word and example.
. 9.
Study the scriptures.
. 10.
Listen to and obey the inspired words of the prophets of the Lord.
Finally, each of us needs to receive the Holy Ghost and learn to follow His direction in our individual lives.
Gospel Principles, c. 1978, 1979, and 1981, Chapter 47, Exaltation, p. 291-292

(They omiitted the laws of Chastity, Consecration, Sacrifice, etc.)

“For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for the blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted before the foundations of the world. (D&C 132:5.)”

Phoebe; I was not confusing anything! Jesus died for our salvation. Salvation means that we will spend eternity with God because we are justified, sanctified and glorified by what God is doing for believers. Our God is merciful.

Your belief is hauntingly similar to the anti-Christ Nehor’s, like you he confused salvation with eternal life and he taught that man didn’t have to do anything to have eternal life/exaltation

“And he also testified unto the people that all mankind should be saved at the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble, but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice; for the Lord had created all men, and had also redeemed all men; and, in the end, all men should have eternal life” Alma 1

Let’s see what Jesus say about what I required?

Luke 18
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Paying a little tithing doesn’t seem all that hard compared to selling all that I have.

Let's look at the list and see what the Bible says

1. Love God and our neighbors.

Luke 10:27
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

2. Keep the commandments.
1John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

3. Repent of our wrong doings.

Matt 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

4. Search out our kindred dead and receive the saving ordinances of the gospel for them.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Mal 4
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: Matt. 16:19
dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: John 5:25 .
Lord both of the dead and living: Rom. 14:9 .
what shall they do which are baptized for the dead: 1 Cor. 15:29 .
they without us should not be made perfect: Heb. 11:40 .
preached unto the spirits in prison: 1 Pet. 3:19 .
gospel preached also to them that are dead: 1 Pet. 4:6 .

5. Attend our Church meetings as regularly as possible so we can renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament.

Heb 10
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

1 Corinthians 10:16
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

6. Love our family members and strengthen them in the ways of the Lord.

Eph 5
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Col 3
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

7. Have family and individual prayers every day.

Philippians 4:6
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

8. Teach the gospel to others by word and example.

Matt 28
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

9. Study the scriptures.
2Tim 3:5
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

10. Listen to and obey the inspired words of the prophets of the Lord.

Matt 10:41
He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward;

I especially like 1John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Why do you think keeping the commandments of God is such a burden?

  2. That's not my belief at all! Your belief is pagan. The Mormon god is an exalted man, and Mormons teach that men can earn godhood.

    This is my belief:
"Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
    John 3:7

The Book of Mormon isn't scripture.

When are Mormons going to sell all their possessions? When will you obey the commandment to "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48)

    This is my belief:
"Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
    John 3:7

  • IMO, this most likely refers to forgiveness of sin.

dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: John 5:25 .

That's right eveyone will! They'll wish they had had faith.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Lord both of the dead and living: Rom. 14:9 .
    Lord of all!

29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?1 Cor. 15:29 .

All of Chapter 15 is about the resurrection which not everyone believed in.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

We know all those verses and we follow Christ because He loved us while we were still sinners. We don't deserve the new birth, but God in His mercy gave it to us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

    Hallelujah!

    Works don't save! Jesus does!

    J

Where did you read that? I certainly never said it. We don't deserve the new birth, but God in His mercy gave it to us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. I love His commandments! Mormon laws and ordinances, however, aren't His commandments.
