First thing, I would just like to state that I used to be a cutter; so trust me I have been there...
Below are some things that I asked, and did to myself so I could finally quit. I eventually stopped SI ing after I did all this stuff:
1) Why am I cutting? First thing, I believe it is the atmost important to idenify just what is causing you to SI. It is important also to be honest with yourself with this question....
For many, the reason for SI ing is depression. Face the thing that is depressing you and find something positive about it, and think about that instead. Atleast for me, I found that cutting only made me even more depressed, and it turned me into a VERY negative person about everything in my life.
2) How many people am I hurting by doing this to myself? Believe it or not, when you tell somebody what you are doing, they begin to think about you almost constatly, worrying, caring, and praying.
I finally decided to quit because I didn't like what I was doing to my friends, making them worry about me so much.
3) Find something that makes you happy: I know how hard it may be to find something that you like about yourself, or your life; but even if it is the smallest things, this can still help you quit. Instead of thinking about everything WRONG with certain things, look for things that are RIGHT with those things.
4) Avoid things that can trigger you: There are many websites that "support" cutters, but there are then those that trigger people to cut, even if they say they are a recovering website. Note: Christian Forums is a great place for support since mods look though every post and topic before it is posted on the boards for all to see. But anyway, be careful where you go on the web.
5) HAVE THE AMBITION TO QUIT: It is crucial that you have enough power to want to stop cutting. If it helps, say to yourself "I AM GOING TO QUIT" a thousand times. Do anything that can make you stop even if it means talking to yourself!
Also, it is GREAT to pray to God, and think/ask what he would want you to do. Know that He loves you no matter what, AND also know that your friends will always be there no matter what decision you make. If they don't care what you are doing to yourself, that shows just how much you mean to them.
PS: These things don't apply for everyone I guess. These are just things that helped me out. They may not be the same for you. People may also add more tips, comments, or argues with what I have said above. YOU SHALL ALL BE IN MY PRAYERS NO MATTER WHAT THE CASE IS. GOD BLESS..
