Philip Alston, the United Nations special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, has just wrapped up a 15-day tour of the United States. His team visited Alabama, California, Puerto Rico, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. The findings, released last Friday, documented homelessness, unsafe sanitation and sewage disposal practices, as well as police surveillance, criminalization and harassment of the poor. The rise in poverty, they found, disproportionately affects people of color and women, but also large swaths of white Americans. The report concluded that the pervasiveness of poverty and inequality “are shockingly at odds with [the United States’] immense wealth and its founding commitment to human rights.”

But said he knew exactly how to fix the problems of the inner city. He had built buildings in the inner city. It was all so very easy. And Trump had talked to the person who could fix the crime problem in Chicago in one week. One week, and no more crime. Trump said he trusted him 100%. I have never heard of any plan. Can anyone tell me what it is?

If there is no plan, then it appears Trump was treating the American people as he treated Trudeau. The only thing missing is the tape of him laughing at his ignorance on the subject. And bragging how he lied to the American people and made them further distrust the media and other important institutions of democracy with his lies.

This post was very much on the topic I believe.

Trump said he had plan to fix the problems of inner cities. And he knew the person who could get rid of crime in Chicago in one week. Trusted this person 100%.

On this subject at least it appears Trump treated his supporters exactly the same way he treated Trudeau.

That is the problem I think. We saw it with Trudeau as well. Trump is not willing to put in 5 minutes work to learn most basic facts about something as important as trade with second largest trading partner. It is easier for him to just lie with great confidence. And that is how Trump treats everything.

Except twitter wars and name calling. Those he apparently devotes entire mornings to, waking up early and glued to TV set to study latest information. Spending hours coming up with the great names to insult his opponents with.

But improving trade and fixing poverty? Things that are important to American families? Not. Even. Five. Minutes.

Just because Republicans don't care how much there is, how deep it goes or how bad it is? That doesn't actually mean "the material against Trump is getting mighty thin": indifference isn't actually proof of "not much".
