I’m kind of divided. On one hand, I don’t want the man to get hurt or die. At the same time, it’s hard to muster sympathy for someone who put themselves at risk needlessly and suffered the consequences. Mess with fire long enough, you’ll get burned.

People can only deny reality for so long. At some point, reality will happily slap them upside the head.

Herman Cain, dead at 74, of COVID-19.

Herman Cain, the former presidential candidate and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, has died from coronavirus, according to an obituary sent from his verified Twitter account and Newsmax, where he was launching a television show.

Cain tested positive for Covid-19 on June 29 and was hospitalized on July 1 after developing symptoms serious enough to be hospitalized, according to the statement posted on Twitter.

Cain was a co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, and his last public appearance was as one of the surrogates at President Trump's June 20 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Trump campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh told CNN at the time that Cain did not meet with Trump at the Tulsa rally.

It is unknown where Cain contracted the virus. Cain was pictured at the indoor rally not wearing a mask.

This should not have happened. He should've worn the mask. He shouldn't have been at the rally in the first place.

Wear the mask, people. Come on.

Wear the mask, people. Come on.
It should be a cautionary tale for all of us.

He was diagnosed 9 days after the Tulsa rally so there is a decent chance he got it there.
Honestly, whether he did or not, he shouldn’t have been out and about. He wasn’t an essential worker, he could afford to stay home and quarantine, there’s nothing he needed to do that required him to come out and take risks.

My condolences to his family and friends. Hopefully the rest of us can take it as a reminder of how deadly this disease can be, that you can even seem to be recovering and relapse (appears to frequently happen), and that we need to protect those with risk factors (such as being a senior citizen).

He was also a colon cancer survivor, so he was immensely at risk health wise.

What would make a reasonably intelligent man like Herman Cain, knowing his own health concerns, risk going to a trump campaign rally where social distancing and mask wearing were actively DISCOURAGED?

These days, many otherwise intelligent people have lost track of how to ascertain reality.

My conservative Facebook friends are saying the following about his death:
"He died from stage 4 Colon cancer"
"Yep he died from the cancer but of course they'll report it as Coronavirus like they do with all the other ones"
"His death is a hoax - he's alive somewhere and wanted out of the spotlight and Trump helped give that to him"
"He probably had a flu and with his cancer it killed him - it's NOT Covid"
"No masks would have helped him at all"

I'm stunned and appalled
